I don't have a nutritionist like many of you; had my surgery done in Frankfurt Germany and I now live in Hawaii. (self-pay). I eat a lot of popcorn because it goes down easily.....have any of you NUTS said no to this?

It's a slider food, so should be limited to occasion! And depends on how far out you are, you need to be careful of the kernels

Mine says no. She particularly warned us not to eat theater popcorn. I don't really know why though. Perhaps because if I am eating popcorn, I am not eating Protein or vegetables.

Theater popcorn has bout 2000 calories in butter alone - that's probably why.

I eat popcorn maybe once every year so if I eat it at the theater, I think I'm ok :)

If its a common thing, make sure you're limiting your serving size and what you put on it -

My husband loves popcorn so I get him the 100 calorie serving size bags - that way he has enough, but doesn't gorge on it.

I eat the 100 calorie bags as well. I get the plain ones then and a little white cheddar sprinkling. The powder has almost no calories and just a little sodium.

I know a lot of people do eat it, some will say in moderation and some doctor's and nutritionists will say NO..never eat it. I am sure some day, I will have a little bit, but I don't imagine doing it for a while. I'm at 8 weeks and struggling with Protein. I just got pleurisy again (Lupus related) and it's hard to breath let alone eat or dink. I had my first real salad today, ate less than 1/2 of it (mostly picked out some of the meat). The lettuce was rough going down.

I guess it depends on how far out you are. It is a slider food, you eat it and you can eat so much of it (pre-surgery for my "forespecial" day out I ate the Largest Jumbo bag of popcorn at the movies...all by myself, yeah I put butter on it too. That equals 910-1220 calories and 71-97 grams of fat. I lucked out and didn't gain weight because I was careful for 2 weeks prior to this and was on a stall and it kicked me out of a stall.

Good luck, popcorn is something I love, but I don't think it's a good idea just out from surgery because the kernels could be harmful to your stomach and there's not much of a nutritional value to them, if you are going to try some make sure you are healed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
