LorenaVaca 29 Posted July 29, 2012 When my mom had WLS 9 yrs ago she was given a card that was pretty much a pass that should could order off kids menu. All she wohld have to do is show it to waiter and they automatically have to let her order of the kids menu. Does anyone know if they still do this?
Susmcmur 124 Posted July 29, 2012 My surgeon's office have me a little kid's menu card to place in my wallet but honestly I've never used it. Lots of sit down restaurant kids menus are comprised of burgers, fries, Mac 'n cheese, fried chicken tenders, spaghetti, and other stuff I can't and shouldn't eat. I have ordered the Chik Fil A kids grilled 4 piece nuggets with a kids fruit cup without any questions or comments from staff. When I go out to eat, I order what I want and wrap up the leftovers (there are ALWAYS leftovers!) or order a Protein (shrimp, scallops) off the appetizer menu. No one questions me or comments on my choice. I've had an occasional waiter who has hovered as I'm playing with my food (worrying that it wasn't to my liking) but I just assure them that it's delicious and I'm taking my time. 1 LorenaVaca reacted to this
his2my2our4 120 Posted July 29, 2012 I was given a card that states that I have had wls and should be allowed to order from the kid's menu or at a buffet, charge the kiddie price. I have only used it once because more often than not, the healthier options are on the adult menu. Anyway, I think the card only requests the restaurant to give the lower price..it isn't a gurantee. I was charged a senior citizen price which fell between the children's price and the adult price. Hope that helps! :-) 1 LorenaVaca reacted to this
LorenaVaca 29 Posted July 29, 2012 That makes a lot of sense...the healtgier foods arent normally on a kids menu so i could see not really using it. I never thought of it in that way. Thanks I think im just feeling so very overwhelmed right now. Surgery is nine days away and my liquid diet starts this Tues. Anxiety has kicked in and im starting to have cold feet...i am not scared of the procedure part i am more scared that even though right now i am trying to think of what i would want as a last meal i cant put my finger on any just one thing that i have to have. But i worry that once i start my liquid diet that all i am going think about is what i should of had...

I was given a card that requests them to allow me to order off the kids menu or be served a smaller portion with a reduced price. It explains that I've had surgery that reduces the stomach to 1/10th the normal size. I haven't used it yet since I'm only 10 days post op. I thought that was really cool of them. 1 LorenaVaca reacted to this
lollyfidy1965 402 Posted July 29, 2012 You can also always ask if they offer a "side" of Protein (for example, The Olive Garden will give you a "side" of tilapia, for $5.00, instead of making you take the entire meal, with sides you won't be able to eat much of (if any) for $16.00. Ruby Tuesday also has some healthy options on their regular menu, and will serve you a smaller portion of your meal up front, putting the remainder in a to-go box, before bringing it to the table. (I did this last night...asked the waitress if she would put 2 oz of the grilled salmon on a small plate, along with 2 TBSP of the mashed cauliflower, and put the rest in a to-go box. She was more than happy to do so for me, and my dinner (which I couldn't finish) was awesome!) I won't be ordering off any kids menus...the food offered there is nothing but garbage carbs and fried foods, for the most part. I'd rather take three meals worth of left-over healthy food home with me! Best of luck! 1 csawinski reacted to this
