Share Your Tummy Tuck Journey..

I asked my surgeon for a referral and they told me I need to be at a stable weight for several months. I am 2 lbs from my goal so maybe next year. My insurance will cover the panni if your skin hangs below you private areas or if you have alot of rashes, skin problems. I was told to document from the beginning any rashes. I had one pre-op and none since and my skin doesn't hang that low. My program has a body contouring program with the plastic docs basically each thing is around $6000 all inclusive - now a breast lift (6000) and enhancement (6000) is considered 2 different procedures. If you combine 2 procedures there is supposed to be some other discounts also. I know these things from a support group meeting where the plastics doc presented. I am looking forward to speaking with them. I also did some research on panni vs Tummy Tuck - if you have just one roll/apron of skin below your belly button only a panni can take care of it, otherwise the tummy tuck is the way to go. I didn't write down any panni info as I didn't think it would work for me but now know it will. Not sure if it is cheaper.

Has anyone had tricare approve a Tummy Tuck or panniculectomy? I found something on the tricare website that said if it is medically necessary but had weird time restrictions. I went to the local tricare office and they told me it wasn't covered at all... Just love those people.

I have Tri-Care prime and having surgery at a military treatment facility they will cover a panniculectomy. The only requirements that I have been told is that they normally will not do it until about 18 months post op. I was told you need to reach goal weight and then maintain for 6 months. Once that happens they will do a panniculectomy and a breast lift. Good luck.

Best wishes

Tara

Where are you having surgery smell bug?I am having mine done at SAMMC ( formerly BAMC). One of the people in their program stated that they would refer us to plastic surgery in their MTF or through network but that Tri Care "rarely" covered it. I thought they worded it that way for a reason. They said to have it done at MTF if tricare does not cover that the federal govt. requires that they charge us a certain amount of money but of course he didn't disclose how much it would be. I have Tricare prime as well.

I edited my above comment to include what they told me at SAMMC... Did they tell you anything like that?

No they have not told me anything like that. I know of three women here in my support group here who have had the panniculectomy and breast lift done with no out of pocket exspensives. I know they preform the panniculectomy here at NAS. I have not looked into the breast lift. As to where they do them. Hope I was helpful.

I don't have federal, but the office gave me the wrong info.. twice.. so looks like they will only cover a panni. Way to get me all excited lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
