At What Weight Limit Did You Say "you Have Had Enough"?

Recommended Posts

250..260..270..280..at 290. I no longer wanted to go outside. I was very unhappy but felt trapped. I knew I was going to die fat. Then the Dr OZ showed the sleeve on his TV show.

1 month later I was sleeved. Now 177.

Every time I started a new diet! Back in 1988 I reached 200lbs and said, "Enough!" and joined weight watchers-lost 30lbs, then in 1994, after college and gaining those 30 plus 20 more I said, "Enough!" and bought every book on Atkins and followed it to the letter, and lost 40 lbs. Then in 2002 while my first son was in Iraq I was disgusted with myself for reaching 240lbs, so I joined the gym and started the South Beach diet, and lost 40lbs. Then 2009 I reached 276lbs and knew if my husband and I went to Hawaii for our 10th anniversary I would be humiliated to get on the helicopter tour-so I said , "Enough!" and joined JennyCraig, and lost 60lbs. Now 2012, I have gained it all back again, and sitting at 280-I want this to be my FINAL ENOUGH! And I went to Dr.Joyce in New Lenox, Illinois and just this week got approved through my insurance for the VSG!

Can't wait to feel better (bad knees, plantar fascitiis, back pain), and breath better (asthma, hiatal hernia), and be able to get on the floor and play with my young grandsons and not need help getting up! It is just pitiful when a 2 year old is trying to help Grammy get to the chair to stand up! ;-(

I just had to comment. I am amazed at the number of younger people on here, and a bit jealous of the life changes you have coming to you. I have been overweight since I was about 25. At 30, I lost 75 pounds at WW, became a WW leader, and thought I had it made. Well, you probablly know what eventually happened. Fast forward 10 years...at 40 I entered an extensive hospital-sponsored liquid diet program. Nothing but liquids for 8 months and I lost 115 pounds. Terrific, right?? Gained it all back plus more. Since then, WW many times, South Beach, etc etc.... yo-yoing my way thru life. Which brought hbp, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, arthritic knees, back pain. I love to travel, and each trip got more painful and more difficult until I no longer wanted to go. Soooo, finally, at age 63, I decided to have surgery. I was sleeved 9 days ago and I am thrilled! I had a fabulous surgeon, and my recovery so far has been very good. And for the first time in many years, I am hopeful and excited for the future with better health and many more trips.

So kudos to you younger sleevers for taking charge of your lives now instead of fighting the horrible battle alone and struggling thru 20 or 30 more years of yoyo dieting. I am proud of all of you!

Mine wasn't a number, it was a culmination of many things. I tried South Beach twice after New Years. The book says the first 2 week killer phase should bring about 8-13 lbs weight loss. I never cheated and threw my all into it, and I lost 3 pounds each time. I went to my dr in tears and begged for help.

I'm turning 50 next year and I think it's a bit of a mid life crisis thing for me too. I have started avoiding social things, staying in more,, avoiding photos, and totally shaken by seeing photos of me.

Something just clicked and I was truly just fed up with the whole thing. I recognized with the 2 south beach experiences that something was just not right with my metabolism and I needed to try something else. My doctor suggested surgery and I knew that was the answer.

My sleeve is this coming Tuesday, looking forward to my new life with excitement!

For me it's was my fat clothes were getting to tight and daily activities started becoming difficult. Getting dressed was like an Olympic event for me, I would be out of breath. I knew I needed to change my life! Having the sleeve done has been the best thing I have done for myself:)

My highest weight was 232. I had been wanting to have WLS for years but didn't have insurance. My husband recently changed jobs and the family insurance is very affordable. I told him the first thing I am going to do is get WLS! So glad I did!

The day I stepped on the scale and weighed 306. Crossing the 300 mark scared me senseless.

When I was close to 240

The number one thing that kicked my butt was the diabetes diagnosis. Instead of insulin I elected to have surgery. I think of the sleeve as my last second chance. Four years ago my husband of 16 wonderful years walked out on me and our two elementary aged kids and i lost weight from tears but then ballooned to 260. I figured it out, that I had been gaining a good 15-20 a year. Being a single mom was a giant learning curve, I was tired all the time, achy and irritable. I needed to exercise but I needed to lose weight first. I knew that if I didn't take action soon my kids would wheel me around for their high school graduation. Best decision I have ever made.

For me it was less about the number and more about how things suddenly started getting really hard to do. I was having trouble tying my shoes' date=' bending down to pick up dropped items, and even..uh..having trouble wiping myself thoroughly. lol. TMI, I know, but that was the big one. That was when I knew I had to make a serious change asap![/quote']

I completely agree with everything you said here. I have not worn shoes that tie in over six months. And the wiping clean is the worst i always feel dirty. If something drops on the floor i ask one of my children to pick it up. Also i am always winded, i can't even climb into bed without needed to catch my breath

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
