6 Weeks Post Op, Drinking Fizz?

Recommended Posts

I have read and been told by my NUT and surgeon that carbonation can stretch sleeve. I have also read on this forum that some NUTs and surgeons say it is okay after 6 months. I have also read that having flat diet soda is okay now according to some NUTs and surgeons, but others will say NO SODA is okay EVER again. There must be some happy medium. I would ask your surgeon before drinking any more. Just my opinion. :)

Ideally, sodas are not in your best interest for numerous reasons. However in small amounts after letting most of the carbonation die out. It probably isn't a major problem.

I have had one Dr. Pepper post-op, didn't even let the carbonation die down, I can say, sodas just aren't appealing to me anymore.

My surgeon and NUT told me no more soda ever. The same goes for caffeine. Luckily for me, I never liked either. I don't care how many Olympic athletes they show drinking Coke in those commercials, or how many "studies" are done telling us that caffeine is a health product, I can't imagine either being good for us.

My surgeon made me promise that I would never drink sodas again...and I haven't at almost two years out. Now, I have had champagne and sparkling wines but not until after 6 months out and I have a single flute.

Why do you drink things that are questionable? Are you drinking for your heath and weight loss or for your tastebuds and old habits?

Remember the goal...to hit goal so even if okay I would stay away from anything in the gray area until in normal BMI range. Remember your goal is to hit goal weight. Best wishes!

I've already started drinking sugar free fizzy drinks' date=' is that dangerous? I've realised it does give me heart burn sometimes![/quote']

Caffeine is a diaretic and There is no medical proof the carbonation does anything to our new stomachs. Even without surgery sodas aren't suggested by mds. I don't really understand the point of drinking them esp since you've had to go witthout them.

I know that carbonation is linked to cancer and bone growth problems. I only let my kids drink one a week. I quit all together. It was hard but now I hate the stuff if I have even just a sip. It makes sense that it is also linked to obesity. The carbonation fills stomachs with gases that are not natural and cause flatualence. I used to get diarrea if I drank more than two a day. Its just bad stuff.

I tried a sip and boy did I regret it.. Don't get my wrong I really love some Coca Cola Icees and Cherry Coke.. BUT I actually stopped drinking it on a regular before surgery. I had it maybe 2 times at dinner between March & June 28th.. When I went to Olive Garden I had Raspberry Peach Belini.. my favorite there.. and at my favorite Italian restaurant, Water with lemon..

Honestly I may try again one day but is it really worth it? Idk.. Probably not at all.

From a lot of reading both here and on other resources on sleeves, you should not be drinking carbonated drinks at 6 weeks. You should consult your doctor as to whether they think it is fine at some point in the future, but now is not the appropriate time.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
