I Expected This Stall But Still Having A Really Hard Time Dealing With It

Recommended Posts

I had my VSG on June 28th. I had lost 37 pounds preop from the first week of March. In the first two-three weeks after surgery I lost 17 pounds. For the last 11 days I have been stalled, and actually went up a couple of pounds.

I have read all about the 3 week stall and I knew to expect it. I know scientifically why it is happening. I am usually a calm, patient person. But this is starting to drive me nuts! I find myself doubting having the whole procedure. I wonder if this whole thing won't work. It irritates me that I lost all of the weight preop doing low carb with lots more calories and big portions and now I am not losing with this extreme diet.

I am sticking to plan, getting in the fluids, getting about 80 grams of Protein, usually around 40 carbs, 700-800 calories. I am still on the mushies stage for a few more days.

I guess I need to know that other people have had this happen and everything ended up working out and the weight did come off.

I had that happen. I drove my family crazy about it. I was sure I was never going to lose again and something was wrong with me. After two weeks I did finally measure myself and had lost inches but that scale wouldn't budge. I didn't lose pounds for 3 weeks! But then I started losing again :)

It will happen, that scale is an evil friend, I find the tape measure to be angelic :)

Try not to worry!

I haven't had surgery yet and have read several posts regarding the stall. It seems that everyone experiences it for the most part. I hope that I will not freak out but, I am expecting my mind to play a trick on me. Why? Because I read about it everyday. I know that a stall is possible because so many people on these boards talk about it. However, the other part of my mind will tell me, I just went through this major surgery and I am only drinking and/or only eat baby food consistency food, why am I suddenly not losing weight? But, my logical brain will tell me that EVERYONE goes through this, give it time. I guess emotions and everything plays into this. I have not read to many posts of someone saying they stalled and never lost another pound.

I say Celebrate your successes and read some of the other experiences on this boards. I think it will help. Again, this is me pre-op.

You will be back in a month sharing your NSVs and you SVs. Wishing you the best!

Also, I have only seen several posts of people regretting their decisions. I am sure you researched and thought long and hard prior to your decision. Congratulations on making this step.

Stalls suck. Stick with the plan, you body is pissed off and could be in starvation mode. Think about it - a few weeks ago you were having probabaly 2000 calories a day & 100 gm of carbs. Now, you deprive it. So, it is fighting back thinking you are never going to give it food again.

Next you need to remember than this is not a race against other sleevers and how fast they lose in comparison to you. You are unique and will lose if you eat/drink correctly.

Have you tried increasing your calories by 100 each day and reducing your carbs by 10 gm a day? Difficult to do, but you might need to take some measures if this stall lasts another week.

Good luck and stick to the plan!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
