My Dr. says not until 21 days out. He is adamant that your sleeve needs this time to heal. Good luck!

My diet guide has 2 weeks full liquids...and 3-5 weeks mushy/puree...so that sounds like to me starting at 14 days...just going to give it some more time i guess. not really having an issue with the liquids. Or maybe just add a soft food every couple days...thanks for your input and good luck with your surgery!

I actually got to starts purees my 2nd week out :) Today being 1 month out I got to start adding some shaved meat and toast into my diet. I have not had any problems, haven't thrown up, etc. And I'm still experiencing good weight loss. Hope everything continues to go well for you!

Today is day 9 for me and I am able to start purees.

My pureed or mushy stage was at 14 days but I pushed that up by a couple of days because I was so tired of liquids, including creamed Soups. The cream of wheat and soggy oatmeal were both considered full liquids on my plan, so those are okay now.

Why are you not calling your doctors office with this question? Every doc has a different protocol and you need to follow the protocol your doctor has developed for you. Asking here and getting the "I broke the rules and didn't stay on liquids as long as I was supposed to" could endanger your life. People DIE from breaking those rules. Call your dr or nut so you don't end up one of those people.

Wow. That was a little harsh. It was a harmless question she asked. Yes, I follow my NUT plan but I come here daily to get advice or ideas from people here who are actually going through this.

It is much harsher to die because you eat something that you shouldn't. We are all different and should be doing exactly what the doctor prescribed for us individually. Trading recipes etc is great later on but initially after surgery we need to eat exactly what and when the doctor said. People DIE by doing otherwise.

Not taking that as harsh..Of course I would go by what my doc says....everyone has their advice...and thats what I asked for. My plan says 2 wks liquids & then Weeks 3 to 5 Weeks puree...so I guess im just nervous about that next stage. Thanks for all ur comments!

I'm glad you didn't take my comments badly. I guess the "I pushed it" post pushed my buttons and I may have misunderstood your question because of that. "pushing it" is like playing russian roulette. I would hate to see you do that. :)

My after plan is five weeks of liquids with one week clear then on to more solid, then wet purée etc. my doc is very conservative because he says that most problems happen with people who push their healing too hard. You might feel good on the outside but since your stomach was literally cut off, you aren't healed enough to play games with your body.

I had the unfortunate experience of shattering a bone in my wrist a few years ago. Two weeks out my wound was obviously not fully healed (not the bone, but just the cut skin). Maybe it was good practice for this :). I know at two weeks you can open a wound that is very well stapled and sewn (I didn't, but I know it's condition then) so anytime I read about someone pushing their early program it kind of peeves me off on behalf of their loved ones.

But since that isn't your goal :). How are you feeling two weeks out?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
