Lexapro for reflux control?

Recommended Posts

:help: I have had issues with severe reflux. I had been on Nexium, Carafate, Zantac and Zelnorm for the reflux, but it did not help. I recently had my band unfilled again. Now I am going for 1/10cc fills about every month. The Nurse Practitioner said another bandster had started Lexapro and her reflux stopped. She suggested I try Lexapro. Have any of you heard of this?

Never heard of this. I would not recommend Lexapro personally even for depression or anxiety. I was on it and had to keep increasing the dose to get any effectiveness.

Best of luck to ya!

My Mum's on Lexapro for anxiety (it works brilliantly for her, but everyone's different), but I've never heard of using it to combat reflux.

Is the reflux at night or daytime? How long have you been banded for and have you had a barium swallow since the reflux started?

This is the first Ive heard of using Lexapro for reflux.

Your pharmacist may have a better view of what this drug is currently being used for.

Good luck on the reflux issue!

Me, my father and brother all take lexapro for anxiety and depression since my mother passed away. I've never heard of it helping anything else. It sounds like they are grasping at straws or something.

Good luck!

I am with everyone else-Lexapro is for depression. Having seen your list of meds for reflux I think you need a referral to a GI doc to see if there are some other studies that should be done. With all of that reflux you are doing more damage to your esophagus which makes it harder to close down and keep the acid from damaging it more.

I take Lexapro for anxiety. It works great for me. I only am able to combat reflux with unfills. If you really think about it.....there is no chemical component in Lexapro that would address reflux. What was she thinking?

I suffered horrible reflux before being banded. I haven't had any trouble with it since the band, but I do take Lexapro. I wonder.

My sister is taking Lexapro for IBS (irratible bowel syndrom)

She was told it is the only medication that will relieve symptoms.

She is dating a surgeon, so I'm sure she discussed it with him also.

Lexapro is for depression/anxiety. Maybe they are thinking that it will "relax" the band?!?!??!!? Have you tried the more "natural" stuff, like elevating the head of your bed 6-8", lemon juice squeezed in my Water REALLY helped pre-banding, now smaller more frequent meals. If they have free samples maybe it's worth a try?!?? Ya never know....

God Bless,

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
