astambo 9 Posted July 27, 2012 Hi everyone! I am having vsg on 8/16 and I'm already worrying about the loose skin issue. Does anyone have any recommendations that can help prevent or lessen loose skin? Exercise? Types is skin lotions? Thanks!!
sr910 55 Posted July 27, 2012 I am not sleeved yet, but this is also a big concern of mine. Besides muscle-building exercise (building up the muscle gives the skin something to hold on to), look for a skin-firming moisturizer that contains CoEnzyme Q10 Complex. If you've got a few extra bucks to spend, I'm a big fan of Caudalie skin products and recently came across this stuff -- and the reviews say it works! http://www.dermstore.com/product_Firming+Concentrate_8569.htm
Sannah 258 Posted July 27, 2012 I am in the same situation. I poster a similar question a while ago and what I learned is this. Of course we all know we can't control the 'nature' aspect of this. But we can control the 'nurture' aspect. Lotion frequently(daily)-for moisture to encourage elasticity Exfoliate weekly- get the blood flowing. One gal said she uses st Ives. Bio oil- not sure how often Under garments- like Spanx to teach the skin where it should be Exercise, especially weights!! I hope this was some what helpful. Hoping for tight skin for all!! sr910 55 Posted July 27, 2012 Exfoliate weekly- get the blood flowing. One gal said she uses st Ives. While researching this a while back, I came across this on a site... "Gently brush the skin with a soft boar bristle brush prior to bathing or showering. This will not only feel great and help to exfoliate your skin, but it will increase the circulation in your skin. This increased circulation will help bring vital nutrients to the skin and improve the quality of collagen and elastin, which will improve the skins ability to bounce back following weight loss" Good luck!! Keep me posted. I haven't even started my approval process, so hopefully you'll have found some good tricks by the time my surgery rolls around
notime 340 Posted July 27, 2012 I can't believe anything but exercise and plastic surgery will help longer term. The rest seem like medicine show potions designed to part us and our money.
Lissa 2,631 Posted July 27, 2012 My skin isn't as bad as I thought it would be at 110 pounds lost, although it's still pretty loose in my underarms and stomach area. I've been using Neutrogena Bio Oil generously since surgery on all my skin. It's expensive ($14 a bottle), but I still haven't used a full bottle at 11 months out, maybe half the bottle. I have used the brushing on my arms sporadically since surgery and it seems to have helped. There is a pinned thread on VST that describes the proper way to do the brushing. Whether it helps the skin or not, it feels really good when you stimulate the blood flow! I also lift weights, low weights, high reps.
