@mrsnellie, congrats! This may be a strange question but exactly what are you experiencing that's amazing?? I see that a lot and have been curious about details. I am preop, surgery is 9/21, and would LOVE to know details on what is to come. I know everyone is different and nothing is guaranteed but curious anyway... :)

I FEEL amazing!!!!!!!! I definitely do not feel like I had a major surgery just a week ago!!! The cravings are GONE! I haven't even considered a carbonated drink. I have been baking and cooking for my family and I don't want any of it. It's a very strange feeling!!!

The best advice I would give anyone would be..... DON'T PRESS THE PAIN PUMP if you came bare it.... The meds make you sick and not able to drink the required amount of liquid to go home. I didn't need the pain meds at home.

So... I have a hard time drinking an entire Protein shake. I usually drink 1/2 for a morning snack and the other 1/2 for a snack later. Do any of you do this? or can you drink a whole shake? ?? I just get so full!!

I can easily drink any Clear liquids. NO problem!

I wonder if that is why my surgeon doesn't have his sleeve or band patients on a pain pump. He only does it for bypass patients. Before reading your post I really WANTED the pump. Now I know its best I don't. Thanks for the tip!

Sept24' date=' with Dr. Heider in Lake Norman, NC

[/quote']

It's just around the corner for you. I just completed my workshop with Denise & Amanda over the phone today (I'm in Raleigh). I'm scheduled for Oct 15 with Dr Heider & then 2 weeks recovery with family in Belmont. Just found out today I have to lose 5% of my weight during the 2 weeks of Optifast - makes me think maybe I should start early, just to be safe!!

Good Luck to you. I hope to stay in touch since there aren't a lot of Heider patients on this board.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
