kczar 166 Posted August 3, 2012 I just had my second sleep study Wednesday. Initially, I wanted the nose pillows but I absolutely hated the feeling of air being forced up my nose. Didn't like the nose mask either because of that feeling of air rushing out of your mouth. It felt horrible! Surprisingly, I felt best with the full mask since I could breathe through both my nose and mouth. Still had to take a sleeping pill to fall asleep, but I don't remember waking up for at least six hours. Get my CPAP next Tuesday and hopefully I'll be able to adapt to it. Getting sleeved on the 20th so hopefully this is a short term solution. 1 scaredoftheunknown reacted to this

I agree, I too hope that with the surgery I can get rid of diabetes, CPAP among other things.

kelliv 659 Posted August 4, 2012 I have been using CPAP machine for mild level 8 seep apnea for 2 years ad it makes me feel so good. My op is on 14 August and it was my sleep specialist was the one who suggested it. I intend to have another sleep study in a year ad hope it has disappeared. 80% of people who have WLS get rid of sleep apnea. I use smallest soft silicone nose mask which just sits into the nostrils . It took a bit of getting used to but is very comfortable now. Good luck
simply.torri 28 Posted August 8, 2012 I went for my sleep study night before last, and they woke me up in the middle of the night and gave me a CPAP!! I dont even have to go back, i guess it was THAT BAD! They said I woke up 15+ times in one hour Anyhow, i used it for the first time last night......... i was looking forward to waking up feeling fantastic, but im just as tired as i usually am It wasnt too uncomfortable. I noticed that the air would ramp up randomly though, which was uncomfy and putting it back on while 1/2 asleep after coming from the bathroom was a pain. When will it start making me feel really good in the morning?

When will it start making me feel really good in the morning? You already have your CPAP? I'm getting royally screwed over by the sleep center on this. I had a consult on 6/19, first sleep study on 7/2, follow up appointment 7/24, second sleep study 8/1, follow up 8/7 and now they're ordering the machine! I was diagnosed with severe OSA (I stop breathing an average of every 50 seconds) and it's taking two months to get a machine. Very unhappy! You might ask for a prescription for sleeping pills. They gave me an Ambien during the second sleep study because she said I was fighting the CPAP. That might help you through the adjustment phase. From what I've seen, it usually takes a week or so to get used to it. Good luck!

TBH I still don't feel any better ith the CPAP than before. But then again I never felt bad before. I do know that it help, because I can't sleep near as much. Pre CPAP I was easily sleeping 8hrs/night since I'm usually around 5-6 then I'm wide awake.

They told me before they hooked me up that if i stop breathing 15+ times they will give it to me immediately, I guess they were not trying to have anyone die up in there! I haven't gotten official results so i dont know how many times i stopped breathing yet. I hope you get the machine soon! According to them, i slept much better with it, but i dont feel any better yet. Ill give it time. I dont really want to take a sleeping pill but that might help until i get used to it like you said! Ill ask about that!

KS Fort Worth 86 Posted August 8, 2012 So u get less sleep now? Isn't that kinda backwards? It's all in how you define "sleep." If you're not reaching deep sleep because of the apnea, you're not really sleeping. 5-6 hours of quality sleep beats 8 hours of apnea-interrupted "rest" hands down. 1 simply.torri reacted to this
