Sooooo Ticked! Should I Laugh Or Cry! Bmi 39.18!

Recommended Posts

Saw my Doc and got the official BMI of 39.18! Less than a pound away from being approved by BCBS AL! Ughhhh! See my internal med Doc next week to start the 6 months of diet and frustration! I wish I could just go straight to Alvarez, but I know I need to try to get it covered by insurance. The money that I would self pay with needs to be put aside for any cosmetic issues that I may have in the future. Oh well, nothing worthwhile is ever easy! Par for the course for me! God knows best and He will see me through! I just need you all to help keep me sane through all this.

Next weigh in. Keep your shoes on and maybe add some ankle weights. However to my understanding if you have 2 comorbid. Conditions your bmi can be as low as 35.

Once it is initially and officially posted on my docs notes, will BCBS even consider it if I go up? I go tomorrow to a sleep clinic to attempt yet another sleep study. The one I had before said that I had apnea, but not enough to justify a c-pap, which I actually wanted! I just wanted to feel better! I know this will all work out, but I need you guys to allow me to vent and give me some encouragement in the mean time. By the way, I am on Metformin for pre-diabetes and according to my Doc that is not good enough for a comorbidity. It has to be full blown diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnea! Dang, they need to take my BP right now!!!!!! Looks like I'm gonna have to get sick to get better. You would think they would see this as an opportunity to help me avoid illness and eventually save them money in the long run!

I have Blue Cross AL and was approved with BMI 38.7. I do have type 2 diabetes, but that is my only other co-morb. On the sixth month "diet", I went up and down. My pcp warned me not to lose too much if I wanted the surgery. I was approved the same day they submitted it.

Thank you so much for your reply! I am still cautiously hopeful!

I have BCBS AL as well and paperwork will be submitted Monday. My bmi is 58 I'm just so scared that they're gonna say my obesity is pre existing! I didn't have insurance before I got this policy in January through my husband's job. I'm praying for an approval quickly after Submitted.

You would think they would see it as a way to get you healthy and keep you healthy! This one procedure vs several hospital stays for Lord only knows what! One hospital stay runs about the same as this procedure, certainly if ER is involved and God forbid ICU! I feel good about you!

I think it's a bad idea to ever sabotage yourself to get what you want. That being said, drink the Water before, leave your shooed on, pockets full of change, etc. the metformin IS enough for BCBS in most cases. I know several people approved as pre-diabetic.

Thank you circa! Now, just how much should I lose on this diet without sabotaging my approval? I've heard of denial due to non-compliance and denial because they did too well. Do I stay within a certain BMI or lose only so many pounds? This is ridiculous! If I knew I would be approved I would hop to this diet like there is no tomorrow and be happy to get myself prepared! Ughhh!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
