Are fills dangerous?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if fills are dangerous to any part of your body? I get them every month for the last 3 months and need another one I have restriction but need to start losing weight and I have not done that for the last 2 1/2 weeks. I know the danger of being over filled it must be awful, but what other choice do I have? I refuse to go on anymore of a diet than I am already on. I paid thousands of dollars to go on weight watchers!!! Besides I've been on weight watchers at least 3 times and lots of other diets as well, thats why I spent 18 thousand dollars for this.:rolleyes

So if I follow, you have restriction, but haven't lost weight for 2.5 weeks, so you now think you need to get overfilled because of that? Time to change your thinking!

There's nothing wrong with not losing anything for 2.5 weeks. You ask what choice you have -- the choice you have is to be patient, and understand that the body cannot sustain constant loss. It needs time to "readjust" to what's going on, and while it is doing this, you're probably not going to lose any weight. You might even gain weight. Always remember that weight does not equal fat.

Are fills dangerous? Well, not fills themselves, not usually anyway. But complications that can arise from too many fills and resulting overfill - you probably know the answer to that question. :couch2:

Wheetsin said everything perfectly, even though I suspect it wasn't what you were wanting hear. My best advice is to take a deep breath, don't panic, and be patient. If you have restriction, you will lose weight. This is not a race.

Time and time again, I have read the sad stories of bandsters who have wished they would have been more patient, or happy with what they had...before they became too restricted and began a long process of PB's, soft food syndrome, eating too many calories, esophagus problems, etc. Sometimes, this resulted in erosion and band removal (although these things can happen even if the person was not overly restricted...).

Bottom line: this is a long process. Being impatient can cause problems. You have not wasted your money, or at least it is way too soon to determine that.

Take your time and let your body adjust to all the change. Good luck in your journey. (A marathon and not a sprint).

I had a personal trainer once tell me that your "set points" when losing weight are often weights at which you spent a good deal of time weighing. I am a yo-yo dieter so my weight had changed many, many times of the years.

Each time I had gone on a diet, pre-banding, I saw exactly what my trainer was trying to tell me. As I reached the weights that I had previously been for long periods of time, I did stall. And just like wheetsin said your body is readjusting to the weight loss.

Do you happen to be at a weight that you were once before? Just curious.

I think maybe your right about the set points, but since I haven't weight this number in about 5 years I can't remember. Yes I am not the most patient person on earth which is why all the diets I've been on in my life have failed, not quick enough results. I guess I'll start doing something different and see what that does for me.

Although for the last 2 days I've been eating much more and it's actually is going down. I probably need a fill. I am hoping this one will stick for a much longer period of time. Who knows it is a guessing game this band. I love it but I hate it as well.

I didn't get good restriction until my 4th fill. Now I have to be much more careful when I eat and there are things that I can't eat anymore. bread kills me. But I'm not losing much either. I'm averaging 1.5 pounds a weeks so far. But when I look back at the constant gaining that got me here, I'm happy. I just have to be patient.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
