Thank you everyone, I am starting to feel better about going alone. My family is flying in with me, but will be staying in the states and hanging out with some people we know and having a fun vacation :)

I feel more comfortable with that plan now!

I didn't have my procedure in Mexico, however I did go with a friend while he had his procedure. I can tell you, my visit was mostly tending to my friend, we took little strolls to the plaza and did some light shopping, but he did get tired quickly. I did venture out on my own once or twice for a short time. But my main focus was my friends well being. So ultimately do I count that as a vacation, nope not at all. However it did put my friends family at ease knowing that I was with him and I did call/text updates.

If anyone having surgery with Dr. Kelly needs a companion I'm more than happy to go! Just give me enough notice that I can get off work! Would love to see Dr K again and be a shoulder to lean on for support! Absolutely 100% serious about this!

Cathy' date=' do you live close enough to go? Or do you need a flight?[/quote']

It's a quick flight. There is one that leaves my area at 5 am and has one layover, I'm usually in San Diego by 9 am!

ATLSara, I am also going to Dr. Kelly, my surgery hasn't been scheduled yet, I wonder if I could do it the same day as you. I am in Florida btw...it would be great to have someone else as a newbie there going through it at the same time.

I am trying for 8/31 too. I'm waiting to hear back from Omar. ATLSara, when do you leave tJ?

Ladybuglv I am planning on arriving on the 31st morning and leaving the afternoon of the 4th. That's what Omar suggested.

BTW, ladybug has been my typical online name, ever since college when every apartment I had seemed to have ladybug infestations!

LTL Sara, it's been mine too. I've been using it for 10+ years. I just add whatever city I live in, Las Vegas now. Ladybugs make me smile :)

I had seriously thought about Dr Kelly and while I can't explain it, I am just drawn to Dr Aceves. I know Dr Kelly is excellent, and the $ difference would buy ALOT of smaller size clothes. But the little voice inside wants me to fo to Dr Aceves. I'm just gonna have to follow my gut on this one.

Nice to have a sister sleever!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
