Did you or do you plan on going alone?

At first I was thinking about bringing my husband and kids but i have serious doubts about bringing the kids. I think i would rather them stay in the states.

I hear that the area is not as bad as people make it sound, but i have never been there.

I went alone. Not for fear of the horror stories you hear about bordertowns. But because I really thought once I got to Mexico everything was going to happen pretty fast, then I would be in the hospital for 2days & a hotel for 1 (closer to overnight) a companion wouldn't have any real opportunity to enjoy anything and I didn't really want to coop someone else up with me in the hospital.

I made sure I had a good coordinator that would be there for me if needed and that was all I needed.

I also went alone. The coordinators direct you every step of the way and there are nurses to help with the aftercare so you really don't need anyone there with you. I'm sure having your hubby would be a comfort, but it's really not necessary.

I am going alone on August 9 to Tijuana for surgery with Dr. Garcia. I'm not worried but I have travelled around the world alone before (Africa). For me, this is a personal journey and I also thought who ever I brought would be really bored. Dr. Garcia has what appears to be great staff, so I'm not too worried, but August 7 before I get on the plane, I will probably be an anxious wreck -- I'm taking that as a sign I'm normal. Who would be entirely worry free?? No one!

I'm going alone also. My surgery hasn't been scheduled yet but will probably be end of August or beginning of September. I am ready although I am sure the day of the flight I will be a nervous wreck!!

I am also going alone to Dr. Kelly on Aug. 31st. I travel quite a bit for work to all parts of the world, so I am not nervous. I have been assured that the Dr's offices are so well prepared for those of us doing this that there is never a hitch in the plans. Now for all the other worries.....I can't even begin to tell you what is on my mind!

ATLSara, I am also going to Dr. Kelly, my surgery hasn't been scheduled yet, I wonder if I could do it the same day as you. I am in Florida btw...it would be great to have someone else as a newbie there going through it at the same time.

Melinda Marie I would LOVE that. I profess to be brave and I will still be a mass of nerves before this trip! My clients at least don't cut me open on work trips!

Its not really traveling alone that worries me it's more about the actual surgery. In the states they won't let you have ANY surgery without someone sitting the waiting room. I think it's a little crazy, but thats what we are conditioned to, so this surgery in Mexico deal is a little different.

I went alone. It was just too complicated and expensive to drag DH and the little ones along. I was fine! You'll make buddies with the other patients getting surgery that day and you'll have someone to come visit you when you get out, I'm sure.

I also agree that it goes so quickly and there isn't much for a traveling companion to do in such a short time.

Good luck!

I'm going alone to Dr. Kelly on 8/23 and am fine with it. He did tell me I could take a Xanax on the plane for my nerves :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
