Dr Nick put me on 5 Protein Shakes a day and 5oz of meat and two cups of vegtibles at dinner time. or 1200 calories total. You have to watch the calories in the Protein Drinks. make sure they are low in sugar and carbs. I have to do this for 2 weeks pre op. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

I am having my surgery next Tuesday the 31st also. I am getting kinda nervous. I haven't had to do a long liquid diet or anything like some people talk about. I only have to do Clear liquids the day before. I think I am getting worried the most about having complications and the hair loss and loose skin after the weight loss. I hope you have a great surgery and everything goes well!

The reason some surgeons do the pre-op diet is because most obese patients have enlarged & fatty livers. When they use a laparoscopic approach there is a greater risk of liver puncture when they place the scopes in. The 2 week high Protein diet with low carbs shrinks the liver and reduces your risk. But you would need to heed your own surgeon's advice.

Hi, I'm also new around here and my surgery will be on July 31st, next Tuesday. I'm very anxious and a little scared. It was very comforting to find this forum today with so many people talking about their surgeries, sharing stories and good advice. Best wishes from Rio and good luck!

I'm not on 31st but am scheduled for the 30th here in CA...day 6 of liquids only pre-op diet. Doing well! Have tons of family/friends supporting me. My best friend from TX (RNY last year) is flying in to be with me and help out once I get home...very fortunate! Good luck to all.....

Dr. Nicholson is wonderful!!!! I was a self-pay on 6/19 and I travelled from Minneapolis! Great experience, so very happy I chose him!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
