SkinnyRicki 34 Posted July 25, 2012 Hey all!! I have been working hard on my prerequisites for surgery and my preop diet and the next thing coming up is my sleep study and I am getting a little nervous about it. I tend to have a hard time sleeping in unfamiliar places so I am not sure how this is going to go... Keeping my fingers crossed that 1) I can actually sleep and 2) that I DO NOT have sleep apnea. Study is on 8/4 and then I have a follow up for that, one more meeting with the psych ( she was concerned I was being to hard on myself) and then 2 more visits with the NUT and then they should be able to submit to insurance!! Hopefully I can lose these lbs required by MVP so I don't delay anything!! Can't wait to be on the loser's bench!!
KS Fort Worth 86 Posted July 25, 2012 If you DO have sleep apnea, it becomes a comorbidity, and increases your chances for approval. I just had my sleeve yesterday, but I lost enough weight since the diagnosis that my apnea is mostly resolved.
kczar 166 Posted July 25, 2012 sleep studies do suck, I'm not going to lie. I had a difficult time actually going to sleep, but I'm claustrophobic so the stuff on my face and up my nose gave me a hard time. However, they try to make it as pleasant as possible. Best tip I can give you, buy some VO-5 hot oil treatment! They put leads on your scalp and it's impossible to get that gunk out of your hair with regular Shampoo. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and have to go back next week to do another study with a mask. *Blech* Just remember that even if you do need to use a CPAP, you probably won't need it after you lose your excess weight. Good luck!
mrsflyboybs 62 Posted July 25, 2012 Your dr may be willing to prescribe you a mild sleeping pill, like mine did. It did wonders for me, relaxed me enough to get through the test, even with finals the next day.
ibehere10 163 Posted July 25, 2012 Hi, I feel the same way and my sleep study is this Friday. I do not travel well because I tend to not sleep much anywhere other than home sweet home. This will be interesting. I was told that some places give you something to help you sleep, so we will see. Good luck and I will post to let you know how it goes for me.... Take care, Diane

I had a 45 min drive home & and had to stop & sleep 4more hrs in my car. That stuff works too well
