Sleeve Surgery And Dermatomyositis

Recommended Posts

I have been diagnose with dermatomyositis/dermatomyositis sine myositis and will be having sleeve surgery in August my Surgeon told me the sleeve surgery might worsen my condition and I need to know if anyone knows about this disorder and the sleeve surgery does anybody have this condition and has had sleeve surgery. I have type 2 diabetes and fatty liver. My actual weigtht is about 220, I have lower back problems and i have reumatoid Arthritis. I was told most of these health problems will go away once I have the sleeve surgery but on the other hand the auto-immune disorder may worsen. I need to be well informed. This is a hard decision and I am running out of time. I also need info on how the surgery has worked for all of you and all the info i can get will be of much help I'm sure I'm not the only one with questions and fears. Please send me all the pros and cons I need to be well informed. I just want to make the best decision for my own heath. Thank you all and I will be waiting for you information.

Ii don't have that, so I'm no subject matter expert, and by no means am offering medical advise. So maybe doctor is worried about nutritional needs not being met? Was is your surgeon or the doctor who made the diagnosis the one who gave you the info? If you have any concerns at all I would speak with the specialist who diagnosed you.

From my understanding it can cause atrophy in the muscles, joint pain, and other symptoms. Are you on extra Vitamins? With my ms I'm on daily Multivitamin and since starting my multi Vitamin and my ms therapy I have improved greatly.

I am not sure how this perticular desiease progresses, but with muscle atrophy and joint pain, Water aerobics are great because no pressure in the joints, but there is resistance from the water. Also when the clearance for exercise is given maybe start with very simple yoga to stretch and strengthen muscles. Low impact to help with pain. I wish I could help more... And I wish you the best with your journey. There is a thread on here about lupus. That may have some more info. Auto immune desiease are all so different, but I really hope some of my answers helped.

My daughter was diagnosed with dermatomyositis about a year ago and I researched it as much as i could. Any stress can aggravate or cause a flare-up, which is what your doctor must have been referring to. If you are in "remission", a flare-up may occur post-surgery and require meds such as prednisone to suppress the rlare-up. I would ask your rhematologist if that were to happen, could you delay the steroids until your stomach has healed completely without any ill effects. I think the benefits of the weight loss would help you deal with less health concerns overall and be worth it overall. Just work closely with your rheumatologist - if they aren't supportive, find another rheumatologist! Good luck.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
