If I had to go a day without ice coffee I'd hang myself!

I bought a "cold brew" coffee maker that filters out acid in coffee. I use it with Decaf. You put the coffee in your refrigerator and mix it with Water or milk. You can hear it up or drink it as iced coffee. The decreased and helps. I am presleeve and planning to use this technique postsleeve.

Great to hear everyone's coffee stories....I too LOVED my first cup of coffee of the day and then maybe one in the afternoon as well. I'm 3weeks out today and I have absolutely no desire for coffee yet? Like so many other things I hope at some point I will want and enjoy a good cup sometime soon !!!

Met with my surgeon today for a post op visit (7.5 weeks) and got cleared for coffee!! He said that some people do not tolerate it very well, but I was welcome to try. I may just have to make myself a cup in the morning and see how it goes!

I have invented an iced latte type Protein Shake that really helps the shake go down. I add 2 teaspoons of decaff to a little hot Water to dissolve. Then I blend this into my Isopure vanilla Protein shake with ice. You could use regular coffee too if you are cleared for it.

I'm with Smoggy! I Protein up my coffee fix. It's a treat (2-3x week) but I mix up 1/2 cup of skim milk with 1 scoop of unflavored Unjury protein in my bullet, take it to Starbucks in my Venti iced tervis type cup, order a Tall Skinny Vanilla or Caramel Latte iced and they mix it up for me with 1-2 Splenda. It's 220 calories and 31 grams of protein. Yummy, protein packed, plus I feel like its special.

The Toddy Cold Brew System is the one that I use - it is great - I use Decaf in it. I also have GERD so the reduction in acid achieved by the Toddy Cold Brew System is helpful.

Susmc...great idea! I have been trying to figure out how to add Protein to coffee but did not want it to clump. I am almost 9 mons post op and began drinking coffee again at 3 months or so. At first only Decaf since I kicked the caffeine pre-op, then I went to half-caf and now about 2 cups a day regular. I will slip in decaf every now and again but, I really like the warmth and my routine in the mornings. There are worse things and ultimately if your doc sys it is okay, then to me it is.

I know every doctor's recommendations are different. Some will say, never again. But I just got cleared for coffee at my 8 week check up. He said many people don't tolerate it well, but I was welcome to try. I don't drink even a whole mug full, but just having it back a little bit in the mornings makes me very happy!

I was never told I couldn't have coffee...just nothing caffeinated as it is a diuretic and can also irritate my stomach. I did try a cup last week and my nutritionist was right! Last night I had a cup of Decaf with equal and fat free Creamer and it was excellent!

If you add about an inch of cold Water to your Protein in a separate cup & stir with a fork before you add the hot coffee it doesn't clump. I do the same for iced coffee, and use a Blender Bottle sometimes too.

I hate the clumpies!

Hope that helps. I'm gonna have to try Starbucks. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
