Post-Op Migraine Medication - Drinkable Maltax

Recommended Posts

I sometimes get Migraines. Today I visited my doctor to ask about post-op medications that can be ground-up/crushed or taken as a liquid. I usually take Immitrex for migraines. My doctor prescribed Maltax - he stated that Maltax can be mixed with Water. So it will be my temporary substitute for Immitrex until my stomach heals enough to tolerate Immitrex. I have never taken Maltax and actually never have heard of it. I'm not a doctor. I have no medical training or pharmaceutical training. But I wanted to pass along this tip in case it is helpful for others who suffer migraines and who need a medication post-op that is not in pill form.

I have Migraines also. I take Maxalt-MLT and it dissolves on my tongue. It is not a narcotic either. I even got a Migraine after my surgery and convinced the nurse to let me take one of my own I had brought from home (she said what she didn't see didn't happen and proceeded to leave the room - ha!) and it worked great. I have been taking them for a very long time and they still work. Hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks so much for the information about Immitrex! I had not idea that it was available as an injectable. I will let my physician know.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
