Starting To Freak Out...would Love Some Reassurance

Recommended Posts

I am going in today to complete some final paperwork and pick up my Protein plan for the 2 week pre op diet and what will get me through the first few weeks after surgery. My anxiety level has skyrocketed. I am a lap band to sleeve revision and I do not remember feeling this unsettled or anxious when I went in for my band in 2008. I don't know if it is because the sleeve is irreversible or the idea of having yet another surgery. Whatever the case is, I am a mess. I have less than 2 weeks to make sure my desk is organized and all my work is done so nothing is impacted while I'm off for 2 weeks to recover.

I can't keep up with all the thoughts running through my brain. I've made my decision. I thought I was solid on that decision. But maybe my subconscious is second guessing myself.

Any words of comfort or even just an "attagirl" "you can do this" would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Rest assured, this is totally normal to be nervous before surgery and maybe a part of ourselves is afraid to totally commit to the process. No going back and all that.

I worried a bit about having complications, then I thought back on previous surgeries, including 3 C-Sections, gallbladder removal, and a leg injury surgery....and all of those surgeries went well - I know that I heal well and tolerated general anethesia well, so my fears were just limiting my ablilty to go into this with a totally positive attitude.

I just started picturing myself healthy, seeing myself being wheeled out from recovery, hearing the nurses telling me that all was ok, and that is exactly how it went. Hardly any pain, able to walk up and down the halls, tolerating liquids the next day and being discharged as planned.

What you are doing is committing to your good health. YOU can do this, tap into your own well of strength and know that this is the beginning of something wonderful.

I have been so calm during this process until last week (waiting for my date) and now I am getting some butterflies.

I come here and find these wonderfully supportive people and it really does ease my mind. I know that I am behind you in this process but I am sure that you will be on here posting about how happy you are that you got it done!

Think positive thoughts and the best of luck to you!

I'm 11 days and 14lbs post op and feeling great! I can't believe how fast and what a breeze the surgery was! I did not do a revision so a litte different situation in that respect but any of the questions or anxiety I may have felt before is behind me and I'm so excited for my future! You came to the decision for many reasons and with a clear head I'm sure, before the anxiety of the "moments" before set in. You can do this! Get your desk cleared and your stuff done so you can focus on YOU during the time you've taken off for recovery. Luck to you!! :) :)

You are going to do awesome! It is totally normal to feel nervous (although when I was about to jump out of my skin with fear in the weeks leading up to the big day, I did not know that...I thought I was just a wimp) It sounds like you have a lot to do for work leading up to surgery, so try to just focus on one step at a time. Make yourself a list and start checking off things as you do them. Keep yourself busy so you won't have time to worry. Try to schedule in some YOU time as well, to just relax.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
