my face hurts?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys.

I had my surgery yesterday. I felt great yesterday, pretty sure it was from the morphine. Now I ache all over, of course my abdomen is sore. Yesterday I didn't have any discomfort from the trapped gas I was warned of, but now my shoulders and neck feel like that they have taken a beating.

But something I haven't heard about -- my whole face is sore? It hurts to open my mouth. The front part of my neck is sore as well. My jaw, everything.

Did anyone else feel as sore as I do?

Thanks,

Mallorie

Hi Mallorie. Congratulations on your surgery. My DW was a little sore in the neck area after her surgery. After discussing it with the surgeon, it was determined it was from positioning during the surgery. I encourage you to talk it over with your surgeon just to make sure it is not something that needs attention. Try a heating pad for the soreness and gas. It helps a lot. I hope you have a speedy recovery and I'm sure this will all be a distant memory.

Hi Mallorie, WELCOME to Bandland.

Yep, sounds like gas pains. You may want to talk to your MD first, but I would recommend walking as much as you can. Short quick trips down the street will do wonders for the pain AND a great way to kick start weightloss.

My SIL and I were banded on the same day, and she too had some facial tenderness. The surgeon told her they tip your head back some and insert the breathing tube. That sometimes the blood pools and you end up looking like you have black eyes, or feel bruised. He told us most people have no problems, but occasionally it happens, and not to be alarmed. I would check with your own Dr. but if he tells you something similar, then I figured you wouldn't feel all alone!!! Good Luck on your recovery, may it be swift, and leave you feeling better and better each day!

I agree, it probably has something to do with how you were laying on the O.R. table but I'd call just to double-check. I felt worse the day after surgery too. I guess some people's bodies take a little time to "register" that it's just undergone major surgery. You should start feeling a little better each day. By day 4 I was pretty well back to normal. Congrats!~

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
