The world according to eggface, and Emilybites are 2 great websites/blogs that both have tons of recommendations & ideas on how to make WLS friendly versions of the foods that you remember loving.

Are you on Pinterest? I did 5 months of low carb before surgery and found some substitute recipes on there. There's a cauliflower crust (never tried), I found a pizza bake that uses cream cheese as the main ingredient (never tried), there was a calzone recipe that used a low carb tortilla (tried that one and it was amazing). Now that I'm finally out of purees I plan on trying more alternatives because I'm having major pizza cravings.

I would also recommend EggFace and Emily Bites because I did see pizza substitute recipes on both which sounded great. Also, EggFace's baked ricotta can help with pizza cravings too, or did for me. I just added a few "topping" ingredients to the recipe.

Good luck! Please share if you find anything tasty cuz I'm a pizza freak! lol

I use wonton wrappers, and most recently, flatout bread. My blog is FULL of recipes using both (and links to other blogs that do too). Last night was Taco pizza :)

Oh, I also saw something on pinterest about making a cheese taco shell. Put some shredded cheddar in a circle on wax paper and microwave it... low carb plus some Protein.< /p>

Recipegirl.com has the cauliflower crust recipe I think (search for this specifically: "Cauliflower Crust Hawaiian Pizza"). I've tried it and it was good.

Also from "yourlighterside.com" there is an "Easy Crispy pizza Crust" made out of minced chicken breast and cheese. I have yet to try this one as we've been using the cauliflower crust recipe. (But on this site I also found a "grilled steakhouse pizza" recipe and it was GOOD).

Tacos, I've seen the cheese theory as well. But that's it so far. emilybites.com has the wonton wrappers and has a taco cupcake recipe that would probably hit your craving mark for mexican. I haven't tried the taco cupcakes yet, but the cheeseburger ones and the lasagna ones are to die for. YUM.

Best to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
