Wondering if anyone else experienced this post-op...

I have a cat and a dog. When I returned home from the hospital post-surgey last Thursday, my dog has been by my side non-stop - I leave the room, she follows. My cat, however, seems to be afraid of me! He stares at me all weird. Prior to surgey, he was the biggest mush and would sleep on top of me every night, and come to me to be cuddled. He's still like that with my spouse. At first I thought it was the hospital smell, but that's gotta be gone by now. Then I thought maybe it was the bruising on my face (don't ask how but my eyelid is bruised from surgery). Then I thought maybe it was because I don't smell like myself anymore because of the change in diet, but he'll jump into the lap of a stranger.

Anyone else find their pets react differently to them post surgery? Or is my cat just mental? :)

I have two dogs. They both acted the same towards we. But animals sense when something is not right. They can sense emotions and feelings. So maybe you're putting out something different. Maybe you're not feeling yourself or tired or depressed. My dogs will act different when I am stress than when I am normal.

My cat always gives me the cold shoulder when I'm away for a few days. My husband and I were gone 4 nights when I had my surgery. My cat went on a semi-hunger strike while we were gone only eating half his normal portions.

When we returned I guess he was 'showing us' by ignoring us for a few days but before long he was back to his normal self all up in my business!

my dogs just kinda sniffed me when i came home from the hospital, looked at me funny. now they are big sucks, sleeping beside me all the time. I think dogs are more intuitive though when it comes to that stuff.

Weird, leave it to animals to detect what we humans cannot.

BTW, I suspect they taped your eyelids shut to keep your eyes from drying out, probably got bruised when they removed the tape. I wouldn't think they'd tape them for such a quick surgery but who knows.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
