Banned member 320 Posted July 23, 2012 I'm not telling my inlaws. My MIL called me a fat arse a couple of days after I gave birth to her 1st grand child, I weighed about 180 lbs, size 12-14 pants. She has a very explosive temper and she's bipolar. She's been tall and skinny her whole life. I married her only child and I haven't talked to my MIL in years because she's so unpredictable with her temper. If my husband wants to tell his mom that I've had surgery, that's fine but I wont personally be doing that. OP it's up to you what you decide to do in the end but good luck in whatever you decide. 1 kmwheel reacted to this
NtvTxn 1,262 Posted August 31, 2012 I have been debating telling my inlaws about my surgery. My family and close friends know but it feels like I'm almost hiding something from them not telling them. DH's family except for him and his brother are all morbidly obese and proud of it, everything about them revolves around food. Anyway, right now they think I'm just been on the liquid diet and having surgery to fix my hiatal hernia which is only half a lie I suppose. It's kind of funny because the 12 days of liquid diet I've been on so far we visited them twice and both times she made a chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream which is my favorite and she NEVER makes when they all knew I was on this diet. I sipped on my Protein shake and watched them all eat and acted like it didn't bother me. I can see just from that they wouldn't be much support if they think I'm on a liquid diet for having to have something repaired idk how they would act if they knew I elected to have this surgery...... what would you do??? what do you tell people if they ask why you won't have another cheeseburger or hot dog (because I know they will)? I told my in-laws and didn't know what to expect, but it's turned out they've been two of my biggest cheerleaders. They're always asking how I'm doing, telling me how good I look, and my mother in law said she is so glad I did it while I was this age and may not have to deal with bad knees when I'm older. She's had both knees replaced. So,it's up to you, but it sure makes it easier and what a comfort mine have been!
NtvTxn 1,262 Posted August 31, 2012 You can always say you're on a medically supervised something or other.....you're consulting with a dietitian weekly, whatever. My husband had to get a stent in his heart a year before I had surgery, so our eating habits changed a LOT. He lost 40 lbs with the changes, I lost nothing! Figures, right??!!! Anyway, I used that as an excuse with people I didn't tell.....our eating has changed a lot, and we're exercising more. It made it easier and believeable.
