Dazed and Confused

:( I am just getting started. Sometimes I think I should be able to do this on my own. In 10 years I have lost and gained 50 lbs about 3 times and I'm sick of it. I'm excited and scared at the same time. My question is, if any of you had it to do over, would you still get the lap band??

Hi Connie,

We can all relate to those feelings of "I should be able to do this on my own" and "I know I can lose weight!" What brought me to the band was the realization that nothing, ever, has ever made it so that I could lose weight and keep it off. I needed help, and I wasn't ashamed, finally, to admit it.

It's been a miracle in my life. I would do it again and again and again if I had to. I'm not some skinny mini who has reached "goal" and don't expect to ever fit in to a size 12, much less an 8. But the band has made it possible for me to experience a life and imagine a future of normal proportions, and that to me is a continuing medical wonder.

absolutely--and i would do it sooner so that i would not have been fat my whole entire adult life....i am almost 60--and did it now because of medical problems--could have avoided all the failures of past diets and the medical problems all these years--stupid me...banded 6/13/06 and as of this am am down 40lbs and my sugar level is stable..one happy camper!!!!

Like many others, my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I was banded just under 3 months ago. Yes I was nervous before, I had doubts and concerns, and right after when healing from surgery I would occasionally wonder if I'd done the right thing. Now I know, this has been life changing. I feel better than I've felt in so long that I can't remember the last time I felt this good, and that's less than three months out! Not just weight lost, but I have so much more energy, less stress, general well being and happiness is at an all time high. I finally feel like I have the tools I need to succeed at losing my weight and keeping it off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
