Never had one and don't know much about them. Anyone never have them pre-op, but develop them post? If so, when? And advice for how to avoid? Just curious if it's something I should be conscious of. Thanks!

I just got over a nasty kidney infection and coincidentally had my 6mo post-op appt right in the midst of it. I thought it may have been a stone so I asked. My Dr said any type of stones (kidney, gall) are more common post op. Just make sure you hydrate hydrate hydrate hydrate!

I did experience two kidney stones about 6 weeks out. I have never had so much pain in my life even though the stones were pinhead sized. Mine were Calcium based and my dr told me to watch out for dairy products and of course lots of Water.< /p>

I am not sleeved at this point but kidney stones are a concern of mine. Follow me... lol.

I had started another thread about them and didn't get much response. I have had them for years off and on. It took several attempts to find a med to help in addition to me drinking 60-80 oz of Water a day. No I am not kidding. I finally ended up on potassium citrate and HCTZ daily. It's not regular potassium chloride like others take. This one increases the acidity of your urine and helps to keep the kidneys from forming the crystals. The HCTZ is supposed to induce a mild state of dehydration and works a specific area of the kidney that has to do with calcium/potassium/sodium excretion and reuptake.

I am very concerned about the kidney stones with the surgery and being able to take the meds because without them, I live in kidney stone hell. They have been analyzed and are Calcium. I tried the low dairy, no soda or tea, low Protein, etc. Nothing worked. My MD said that some people just get them and we have to find the right meds. I have done very well on the K+Cit and HCTZ.

Not sure if any of that helped you at all but they are ZERO fun at all. It kinda worries me that mine may get worse post sleeve!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
