How Did You Tell Folks?

Recommended Posts

Some of my close friends and most of my immediate family know what I'm having done, but I'm not sure who else I should tell. My family is scattered all over the U.S. , but we all try to see each other at least once a year. I'm feeling self conscious about showing up to a reunion a hundred pounds lighter and trying to explain it and why I never said anything. Also, some of the people I work with know, and I'm caught between wanting people to mind their own business and just wanting to tell everyone so I don't get asked "what diet are you doing?" A hundred times a day. I'm being really defensive about this surgery, I don't know why. It just sucks that the results are so outward and obvious that everyones going to notice, and you really can't blame people for being curious. I want to keep it private but you really can't.

Yeah, I wanted to be private about it as well, but as the pounds dropped, people at work were asking me how am I losing all this weight? I decided not to lie about it if they asked me, but I am not volunteering the information. Of course, there are people who know about it who I didn't tell, so word is getting around even though I told the few people who know that I am trying to keep it private.

Arrg. I guess I'm just gonna do the same and tell people if they ask but not volunteer any info. Lol if they wanna be in my business theyre gonna have to man up and straight up ask me lol.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
