I'm 5 days out of surgery and feeling pretty okay. My biggest issue is finding a way to fight through the nagging pain of the staples in my belly button. The pain meds knock me out and I feel alright otherwise. Any advice on how to get a little more comfortable?

I had my surgery on 7/18 and thought I was pretty prepared for this..I was not. They gave me oxycontin for pain, and taking it makes me feel worse than if I did not. My whole left side of my stomach on the inside is TIGHT and if I drink anything I get horrible gas in my ribs, regardless of how slow I sip. I am not getting nearly enough liquid, and not even coming close on Protein. i am starting to wish I did not do this to myself, and hope I feel better soon.

I felt the same way and i'm 4 Weeks out. It gets easier and when you see the results it will become worth it to you. I lost 12 pounds the first week i'm down a total of 21. I'm already down 2 pant sizes and shirt sizes. My energy level is insane!!! I hope these changes happen soon for you I know how hard it is at first but think back to the reasons you had your surgery :)

Each day you will feel better than you did the day before. Let me know if you have any questions. Here is a link to my blog from the month I got surgery: http://jfabulous43.w...ss.com/2012/02/. It will tell you what I experienced and hopefully let you know what to expect in the coming weeks. Let me know if you have any questions. The only way I got through this in the beginning was by talking to someone who I met online who had already gone through it. He was a real life saver and talked me through all my hard and anxious moments.

When the gas builds up for me I lay on my left side and curl my leg up. I put a pillow over my left arm and under my right and the same for my legs it helps a lot and relieves a ton of pressure. Hopefully that helps for you!

I am feeling the exact same way, and I am starting to feel sad because I just want to eat real food :( I hope this goes away soon

I was sleeved on Tuesday 7-17 and feeling like I was not prepared either. First day in the hospital I was really regretting it. I had alot of pain and vomiting in the hospital that kept me asleep most of the time so I wasn't walking like I should have. Once home I was having horrible gas pains all over my stomach and ribcage most of the time with and without liquids. My stomach noises were scaring the crap out of me. I finally called my drs office Friday and talked to the nurse. She told me to drink a cup of coffee or tea in the morning - that the heat would help, take gas-x around the clock and double my daily dose of Prevacid and to WALK WALK WALK. Also Water was killing me so she said to mix my protien with crystal light or Propel. All of that has made a huge difference. I was suprized how much walking helps with the pain (as I expected it to make it worse). I'm already down 18.5 lbs since starting the pre op liquid diet, so I know this will be worth it...and it is getting better each day. Just hang in there. :)

I was also a 7/17 sleever. The day I came home from the hospital, I was in the back of a cab on the pothole ridden NYC streets. I thought I was dying! But it hasn't been terrible since then, mostly difficulty breathing and chest pain, which the doctor attributed to the diaphragm being irritated. I'm still doing my Spirometer and I'm able to go a little further everyday. I still take a Percocet a day, crushed and put into a bite of pudding, but I had been on that prior to surgery for two herniated discs and an acetabular tear in my hip. Since I'm off my NSAID post-op, the inflammation is out of control and the Percocet is more for that than surgery-related pain. Everyone heals differently, but if you think this is abnormal, let your doctor know - could be an infection or irritation.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
