I had surgery on Tuesday and while in the hospital and since I came home Thursday, I've had an intermittent low grade fever - usually between 99.3 and 100.3. I'm thinking it could be from dehyrdration. Considering they discharged me from the hospital, I'm guessing they weren't too concerned. Anyone else experience this immediately post-op?

IMO, a fever is a big deal, especially right after surgery. I think I'd be on the phone to my medical posse and see what they think about it!

My PA told me it's not a "fever" until it hits 101. I'm no MD or RN, but our home thermometer says the same thing. I would expect a little elevation to be normal, considering but your body just went through, but agree with Lissa that it might be nice to get some reassurance from a professional.

At discharge, I was told a low grade fever in the first few days after surgery was normal. I too was told to call of it went over 101 degrees. If you are concerned, please call your doctor. Take care!

That is pretty normal protocol. But please call if you are concerned. Atleast that will give them a baseline if it does not resolve. It's their job, and u are worth it.

Thanks all. I figure I'll give it until Monday and call then. As long as it stays below 101, I think I can wait an extra day.

My temps stayed at 99-100 for the first week after surgery. Then they just went away! My surgeon said to call if they hit 101. Congrats on your surgery!

I had a fever after discharge fe the whole first week. It was between 99.3 and 102.6. Although i was still able to drink, I felt miserable. I was on the phone every day wiith my doc. Fianally at 2nd visit he did bloods and urine. Turns out I have a UTI. On antibiotics for another few days. But I feel 100% better. I'm not happy about how long it took to discover but at least it's being treated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
