Working Out During Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Just curious - once you get clearance to lift weights etc. how hard can you work out. I've done P90X in the past and really like it but I'm just wondering if it's something I could do on 600-800 calories. I've done it eating 1200-1500 but never such a low caloric intake. I know I can adjust the workouts to do less reps etc, but I was just wondering is anyone else has done a hard workout like that or Insanity during their first year of weight loss.

You'll figure out your workout routine by trial and error, unless you hire a personal trainer. I know that several have posted that P90X is pretty challenging, but it sounds like you were fairly fit pre-op. Try it once you're back on solids and cleared to work out and see how you do. You'll know whether it's something you can do or not very quickly. :)

Thanks for the response. LOL - Like most of us I've been good at losing weight - but not keeping it off. So previously when I was losing weight - I was in pretty good shape & did P90X- but I've since gained it all back. I was thinking of trying to start back with a modified version of the P90X before I have the surgery.

I haven't had my surgery yet, my 1st appt. with my surgeon on 8-9.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
