I would definitely stay away from pickles in your current phase. Later on, they are okay. They are a tasty, low calorie snack, but the salt content is quite high, especially in the claussen hearty garlic ones, which are my favorites!

I'm probably going to be slaughtered on here for saying this but I have had a pickle. (I am on my blended food phase fixing to start my soft food phase tomorrow-surgery june 18th). I bought baby dill pickles. I chopped off both ends of it and threw those away. I took tiny tiny bites and chewed chewed and chewed some more. I handled it good and it took me a long time to wat it ( just because I was scared ) I put them in my tuna fish salad as well. Good luck to you!

Where's my axe?!?!?! JK. If you look around a bit you'll see that I've done my fair share of cheating. I simply don't advise people to cheat themselves.

If someone hurt themselves based on advice I gave, I'd feel horrible.

I ate pickles pretty early out too. I craved them sooo much. I got the mini dill ones and ate maybe 1 a week or so. But my phases were pretty short too. So I was on soft foods by 4 weeks out.

I'm reviving this thread.

I'm about to lose it over fermented and pickled cravings!

In the past when I had dental work, I had used a potato peeler on a pickle before, on the large pickles, and then sliced them down the center and used a spoon to scoop out the seeds, as you would when preparing a cucumber for a Waldorf salad, or something.

Only I have not tried to eat a pickle yet because I am scared it will go into my sleeve and feel like I drank battery acid. *cry* This is terrifying me. I do not want to throw up or feel a burn. I'm on week 4, maybe 4.5 post op. So you guys are Veterans now.

"Bubbies Pickles" at my local Whole Foods are amazing!! They are authentic fermented pickle, not vinegar pickle. Then, I love this vinegar based brand called "Best" pickles from Texas. Both make me so happy! SO. HAPPY. I love homemade sauerkraut. Right now I'd be happy with just the juice in those bags of pickles and kraut!!

Pickled-Centric'd

UPDATE" My nutritionist said I can try to sip the juice, see how I feel. =D

I'll call my nutrionist. Even if she says it's ok ... I really am worried it will burn it.

I have FIbromyalgia and I can tell you where every single staple and suture line is inside my body. It's the strangest disorder. Developed in my late 20s. I am aware if a fly farts in a nearby town. =(

PS So am I going to burp forever too?

I had the lap band in 2008, it prolapsed above my stomach, removed in 2011. I just now had my Gastric Sleeve.

*cheers*

around the middle of my third week i tried a bite of a dill spear. chewed it like mad and it was fine. by the end of the week i worked my way up to around a half or a little over of a small spear. no problems for me at all. went down fine and also no reflux. i just try not to have too much of it since it really has no nutrional value. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
