4 Days Post Op And I'm Sooo Tired

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I had my surgery weds, and I came home yesterday. I am so incredibly tired and do not have an appetite. I'm trying to drink my Protein but it's giving me nausea.

My biggest concern is being so tired. I just want to sleep. Had this happened to anyone else? Is this normal? How long did it last for?

After a surgery and general anesthesia it is normal to feel tired or jet lagged for few days. Especially when using pain meds and not eating as normal.

I'm 12days out and I am still weak and tired. That's been my only complaint! I have had zero pain, foods going well, but so tired. Everyone says it will get better and it's definitely better than it was a couple days ago! Hang in there!

I had surgery on Tuesday. I was extremely tired the first two days I came home. Yesterday, I was able to stay up a little longer. I think it's normal. Just make sure someone wakes you up every few hours so you can get your liquids in! Good luck~!!

I also had surgery Tuesday and am still exhausted. I get winded just walking the 20 feet from the bedroom to the bathroom (which is often, since I'm still bloated from all the fluids they pumped into me at the hospital). My heart starts racing too. I've been in substantial pain in the belly and shoulder - doctor said that's normal and from the diaphragm being irritated. I've been crushing two Percocet at a time and putting it my Protein Shake (GNC Total Lean chocolate kills the taste). I feel like I just sleep all day. Glad to hear it gets better.

Same here. Surgery in Tuesday. Fell like I have been hit by a truck today. I can walk about 5 minutes then I am back to zero. Pain in better but it hurts. Water is not a problem. Zero app for anything else. Had the chicken broth in my hand and put it back. I am good with water and slim fast for now. sleeping better everytime I lay down.

I can tell its getting better....

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
