O.K. weird question. I have not had the surgery yet, but I was watching some YouTube videos of patients who have had VSG and the one woman is still burping like every 1-2 minutes. I had to stop watching her videos, cuz it started to drive me crazy. She's about 10 months out of surgery now and still burping like that - so I thought if it drove me crazy to watch - is that what it's going to be like after the surgery?

Does anyone else who's had the surgery burp that much - even after 10 months?

i'm 4months out and have never had any burping issues. There are a few foods that bother me and cause some burping but i woul say on average i burp less than 3 times a day.

I burped after every swallow for about the first month. Now, not so much--after a meal or if I take a big swallow of liquid. They are small and can be done discreetly. Because our stomachs are smaller, even a little air is uncomfortable and wants to come out. Better up and out than down and out in my opinion!

I think she has problems because she drinks out of straws - which I heard they tell you not to do because you can take in air. So that will probably help me make the decision not to use straws (which I like drinking out of straws now). LOL. :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
