Converting From Laproscopic To Open Surgery-Anyone

Recommended Posts

Has anyone gone in thinking they would have it done laproscopically and because of prior scar tissue, they had to convert it to an open surgery? I had open gallbladder surgery years ago and am concerned about having to have it done as an "open" surgery. Thanks.

Well, you are always told that there is a possibility for it to become a open procedure...that's why its EXTREMELY important that you research your surgeon...I veted my surgeon so much when I met him I had no questions to ask him, I knew all about him...to the point I knew where in Houston he went to high school...

You have to pray (for yourself and your surgeon's hands), follow your pre-op diet to the letter, and have faith that the person you chose to change your life will do the right thing...

I was suppose to have laporascopic surgery but my surgeon pierced my colon when he first inserted the first tool...so he had to open me up the old fashion way.. I was cut from below my belly button to up between my breasts. I'm thankful he found the pierce right away and fixed it... I just got my 27 staples out yesterday. Recovery is taking a little longer but has not been to bad. I am 12 days postop and ready to be off liquids. I'm sure you should have no problem doing the laporascopic even with your scar :-)

Iweightnomore ... wow i am sorry that happened but so happy the physician repaired it so quickly...

Speaking openly and honestly about your concerns with your physician will be the best way to go...Ask him out right if he has done the sleeve who previously had gallbladder surgery... Having your physician put your mind at ease is the best way to go... IMO
