I read quite a bit about low carbs, and people usually mention 20-30 carbs. Does anyone know if it is bad to have fewer than 20 carbs daily?

I usually work out an hour daily, as much as two hours and as few as 45 minutes. It is at a moderate intensity.

My diet is often only and egg, a quarter cup of shredded cheese, meat and a Protein Drink or 1 1/2 Protein Drinks. I can only have 1 1/2 ounces of meat for a meal, so it isn't possible to fit much more in. I sometimes get extra carbs if I have chili, or I VERY occasionally have a wasa cracker with Peanut Butter. I get 500-600 calories daily. I am 10 weeks out.

Thanks for any advice!

My nutritionist say that there are no essential carbs - especially if we have weight to lose - if you can get into ketosis - ketones is a prime fuel for our bodies and brains - ketosis - not ketoacidosis (which is a whole different animal) is where I wish I could be all the time. Just my bariatric Vitamins, calicium, and Protein Shake can bring me to about 15 g of carb so it is tough to keep it that low right now, but I sure feel better the lower it is.

Now once we are closer to goal and are exercising, working out a lot - I think that upping the carbs is a good thing. PDXman here is an athlete and he always has fine information btw.

I did as close to Atkins 72 as I could pre-op - which is trying to get carbs to essentially zero.

I track my carbs daily, along with Protein an liquids, and try to keep them between 20-30g/day. I check my urine for ketones several times a day, and have been "moderate" or "large" (positive) since the day I came home from the hospital (25 days ago). I've lost 26 pounds in the same period of time, and I'm pretty happy about it. :)

I also check my ketones daily, and test "large" every time I test. I have guessed that it is a good thing, but haven't been exactly sure! Thanks.

Thank you, that helps. I think I am in ketosis based on the urine test. Sounds like keeping carbs to an absolute minimum is the way to go.

I need to get some strips! I have not been checking my levels. Mark's Daily Apple is a great site that I look at often - it is about eating Primal and there is a lot of information about carbs, and how our bodies work in general - check it out, it sounds like you might like it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
