Fruit Smoothie

Recommended Posts

I was just recently released to have fruit again. I simply cannot stand my Protein Shakes that I used preop. They are just too sweet. I was thinking about using some unflavored Protein Powder in a fruit smoothie but really have no experience with making a smoothie so I'm here for advice. I don't really want recipes. I want advice on the basics of making them. Do you just throw in ice, Protein powder, fruit and milk and blend or is there a better way? Also, I don't really care for yogurt. Would the fruit hide the aftertaste of it? Does the fruit hide the taste of unflavored protein powder? Thanks in advance for any help, tips, suggestions!

I have been doing them for a bit now and have played with a few things... I have the vanilla Body Fortress stuff from wal mart. I really prefer the blender over a shaker. I put ice in the fruity ones but not the chocolate/pb ones. My fruit ones look kinda like this. Ice, a little bit of orange juice, a little milk, a small container of strawberry greek yogurt, a scoop of the vanilla protein powder. You can adjust the ingredient amounts to your liking. I hope that didn't over qualify as actual recipe lol! I will do the same thing with different fruits and yogurt combos. I really like them and they start the day well and held me over much better than I thought they would. For what it's worth, I can't honestly even taste the greek yogurt in them either at all.

Try it with peach, blueberry, strawberry, apple (adds Fiber too), love raspberry.... endless combos. Hope than helped.

I can always taste that twang of the yogurt even with fruit. I really dislike yogurt. I think it would be fine to just use milk with the Protein powder.

I would suggest using a vanilla Protein powder rather than an unflavored version. It will not overpower the fruit, but seems a bit more refined and not so raw tasting.

I also agree if possible use a blender. It makes it so much smoother. Because we all want smoothies - not lumpies.

Parker's Dad.......No, your advice didnt over qualify as a recipe. :-) It was exactly what I was looking for. I do have a blender, a Ninja, and will definitely be using it.

Skym34......That's what I'm afraid of too. I think I'm gonna stick to milk with the Protein Powder. I wish I liked yogurt. Unfortunately, I feel like you.

SpecialK1960.......I will check that out. I would have never though to try vanilla. I do have some unflavored I'm gonna "play" with first. I may as well as it's just sitting in the pantry taking up space. And yes. I'll be using a blender.

Thanks y'all!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
