I finally have gotten some relief from the reflux today, but for the last 3-4 days I feel like my food takes forever to digest. I go o dink 30-45 min after I eat and end up throwing up bc I'm too full. WTH?? I'm 3.5 weeks out.

Call your surgeon. They will probably prescribe you Prilosic. It seems like most people take it. Don't suffer if you don't have to.

They had me start on Pepcid. Seems to have really helped. I just am frustrated with the need to puke at least once a day.

I would also take a look at what you are eating. There may be something that doesn't sit well. I have a hard time with meat still. And at your stage I really did. My doc said that it sits heavier because its more dense. But even now it's super odd but chicken makes me feel like crap most of the time. But I can eat beef and pork. So there may be something that bothers your sleeve and you may need to take a break from.

I'm suffering today really bad from my reflux! I could barely eat what I had become use to! I'm on nexium but it doesn't seem to help :(

Same for you, lol. call your doc. It may just be a matter of trying something different. I hope you feel better!

I agree with call your doctor. Our sleeves heal at their own rate, no matter what stage we're "supposed" to be in post-op. Some of us can handle denser foods much earlier than others, despite the timeline. I was told to step back a stage any time I vomitted. If you're having a tough time with soft solids, you may need to give yourself a couple of days at your earlier mushie stage to give your sleeve a little extra time to heal. :)

Dr. started me out taking prilosec 40mg. twice a day. When I left hospital I had a lot of gas n pain nurse said GasX would help and I start taking it with meals and at bedtime for a while helped me.Do you measure food I was told to eat no more than 1/4C. at first and use a sm. spoon chewing 25 times each bite. Nut.said if I vomited I should go back to liq. for a day then slowly add new foods. hope you feel better soon!

Tomorrow I'm going to stick to mushies and see how it goes. I just ate a couple tablespoons of plain avocado with a dash of salt and it seems to be settling in nicely. Nice and soft and ripe. Man, it tasted good!

I'd been taking Zantac since I came home from the hospital (3 weeks ago), and started having breakthrough heartburn horribly on Tuesday (3 days ago). I called my surgeon and he added Pevacid to my meds. Finally, this morning I'm not feeling any heartburn. I'm hopeful the combination has finally started working...because the last 3 days have been miserable!!! Best of luck to you!

After most Proteins I find that 30-40 minutes between eating and drinking is not enough - I need at least an hour, sometimes even more, or else it all comes up. (And yes, I'm still taking Prilosec, 4.5 months out.)

I have the same issue. It is common according to my NUT. She said that it will change as we get further out, but some people just have to wait up to an hour after eating dense and/or fibrous foods. And of course it's a shorter time after eating something like yogurt or softer carbs.

It gets better. I've learned to just listen to my sleeve. If she doesn't like it then I hate it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
