Hi All,

So I had my surgery on July 11th and I started at 282lbs. Well today I weighed in at 275 so basically a 7lb loss which is great but....I dunno....I guess I was expecting more. I know everyone loses at their own pace but....*sigh* I've been sticking to my post op diet and I was at least looking for a reward God!!! Haha

Is this just fluids I'm holding onto from the surgery?

Does this mean I'm gonna be a slow loser for the next several months?

Thanks for listening to me vent

For the first month seriously relax and don't worry about your weight. Do what you are suppose to do, follow your post-op diet, chart your calories, carbs & Protein. Drink your Water and you WILL LOSE.

Day of surgery, Monday June 4th I weighed 229. I came home from the hospital on Friday, June 8th and Saturday morning I weighed myself and I weighed 235 pounds. I was 6 pounds heavier!!!!! I didn't eat in the hospital, I had a few ounces of Protein, and I had Water and decaff tea with truvia. You are swollen, you are bloated, you are healing.

My tummy was bloated and swollen for 5 weeks straight!!!

I promise you, you follow the plan you will lose weight. Sometimes it will go slow or you may even weigh yourself on day and be up a pound, but your body is rearranging and those are the times you need to measure yourself to see loss there, figure out if your clothes are loser.

You are doing great, stay away from carbs work on your protein and water and it will be fine!

Only 8 days out? I would not worry one bit - I gained 20 lbs in the hospital with all of the medical shenanigans my body decided to go through - statistically they say anywhere from 10-25 lbs the first month is normal, again I would not worry at all. I think we are conditioned to freak a bit when the scale isnt moving as fast or at all as we think it should, but really it has no choice if you are following your Dr. and NUT's orders :)

We are human! We want it and we want it now! Just like I have made up my mind to do this and I am going to be forced to wait on insurance approval and jump through all these hoops first. Having been a nurse, I just imagine that your metabolism is going to have to kick in first. Once you get more energy and start moving more, things should speed up. Best of luck to you!

Thanks ladies that info really helps me out a lot. I think today specifically the head hunger is beating my A$$ so I felt that discouraged that I can't eat what I want AND I'm not losing anything!! But your words of encouragement are really helping

I'm actually jealous of you! YOU'VE DONE SOME HARD WORK! You set a goal to change your life. You had a surgery which is a tool to make you much healthier. You had no surgery complications. All of that is a blessing. Beloved, you will lose weight...I mean..they took most of your stomach out.

Sit back and don't stress..let nature heal your body and take it's course. I wanna be like you!! That should encourage you!

In reality we all know that we "don't wake up skinny". However, when you spend much time here, I think you get a skewed vision of how your own weight loss should go. To me, it always seemed like everyone was losing weight at rapid speed but me. In reality though, that isn't true. I still struggle with comparing my weight loss to others and thinking I'm not losing enough. As a matter of fact, I just had my 6 weeks postop visit and I went in hoping I'd lost enough. Ya know, lost what they think I should have. Anyway. I saw the P.A. And she was very happy with what I'd done. Try to not compare yourself to others. It's hard, I know. And remember, this is a journey and you will lose the weight if you follow the rules. You are so early out that your body is still regulating itself. It will all work out.

Congrats on your weight loss so far. Take care!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
