I am 47 and weigh 420lbs and 6 ft tall and have to many problems to list. I jump through my last ins. hoop wed the 25th ins. said they will fast track me so I get to skip the 6 month weight loss. I have done enough research to know i want the vsg and the nut was unable to tell me anything I did not know from this site. She told me one thing I had not read and that was not lieing down after you eat for a hour because of presure.

I do not own a scale and do not plan on using one to reach a "goal" my goals are to be able to walk and get some exersise and play with my two young daughters as I really can not do much now without large quanities of pain med. I have had 4 back sur. and one knee scoped and this has stopped all activities that i enjoy.

I went back to school and received a degree in Civil Engineering in 2009 so the desk job has added to the weight gain. My wife is completely behind this and has provided much support. I live in a small town in SD 3 hours from the nearest town with a support group so I may have to start my own.

Welcome to the boards BigSleeve. Congratulations on your journey thus far. I hope you hear great news soon.

As Mokee stated, this is a wonderful and great forum. The people are all too welcome in helping with questions and advice. They have become extended family. You can count on support here if you are lacking support from your friends and family. We lean on each other.

I would not know what to do if I did't have this outlet to run to. I wish you all the best and please keep us updated on your outcomes. Keep your head up.

Got surgery scedualed today and started pre-op diet. August 14th is the date and i am already tired of app. with doc and such when they offer nothing new and could have done it over the phone. It is 340 miles round trip and so far there has not been a required app. worth going to. After the surgen talked to me yesterday I had basicly force the nurse in to giving me pre-op diet and they want to wate till the day before surgery to talk about post-op diet.

Only have 5 days of leave left so that should make things interesting. But I am on my way so I guess thats all that counts.

Congrats on getting a surgery date Bigsleeve. Sorry that the appointments are seeming useless. Are they willing to take your travels into account? Seems a pre-op diet explanation can be discussed over the phone. I received mine through email, and have phone support if needed.

I hope you are able to balance out the rest of your leave days, or figure out how you are going to make that work after your surgery. I wish you all the best, and good luck on your diet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
