Day 2 And I'm So Hungry

Recommended Posts

Okay guys, I know this is referred to as "head hunger" but I just left the hospital this evening (had my surgery yesterday) and all I can think about is a big plate of rice and chicken. I just need some reassurance that this will go away and if anyone else has had this experience?

I'd say it's very likely that most all of us have had that feeling. When I became hungry I would sip on chicken broth or strained thin Soups. Something about savory foods that settled my hunger pang. It'll get easier..congrats to you!

It won't "go away", that is what the problem is - you will have to overcome this big ol beast - and that is what it can feel like.

Try and understand where it is coming from - somewhere in what you are doing you are cueing your trigger - and your habit to eat.

Change up what you are doing if at all possible...change rooms, watch a new show, somethign...

Everything is mind over matter...Your hormone hunger trigger no longer exists...keep telling yourself that you are not hungry and that food is no longer your crutch....now healing is all you care about.....say it enough and it works....actually just by making the decision that you are no longer hungry it works...

thanks guys... I read somewhere that the acid in the stomach mimics hunger, that's why I thought it would go away... I just really didn't expect to be HUNGRY on the second day.. although I guess hunger is better than complications right? Pookeyism, I think you're right, it's habitual now, I need to change my routine and I shall do just that!!! Thanks!!

Total head hunger. OMG I suffered. But I can't believe how much better I am now. I felt like I was starving in the hospital. And now I have self control. It's one of the hardest things I have gone through with this surgery. But you will beat it! I think about it now and I can't believe how far I have with it.

Now, I just want to say that I do feel ungry. But nothing like before. I was super discouraged for a long time because I thought I wasn't going to feel it. But I use it as a tool too. It reminds me to feed my body. And you really have to eat to lose. I can see that even day to day. On a day that I eat as much as I should I see the scale move down. On days that I basically eat nothing it doesn't move or might actually go up.

Take care of yourself, you will beat the head hunger. And feel proud. Congrats on you surgery!

I had surgery on Tuesday... All I can think of is food. I want a whopper from burger king and a gyro.. Omg I'm so greedy! It's so hard b.c I have kids so while they're eating real food, im sipping chicken broth. You're not alone in feeling hungry, just don't give in... Drink your broth and have Jello like me.

Omg. The stuff I put myself through that first week alone. I was with people while they were eating. I even went to a dinner theater and they served the food to me and I just had to look at it until they came around and I could ask for a box. But I did it and it was ok!

Thanks guys, glad I'm not alone! I'm sure I will learn to work through it. I would rather feel hungry than give in and eat something that ruin my sleeve, or feel sick. I just wasn't expecting to feel hungry afterwards... kinda shocked me!

I am totally dealing with being hungry. It sucks. My mind is saying, "you crazy fool! You haven't had real food in a week!". But my stomach wins out, newly sleeved on Monday. But I know it's hard. So hard.

IDK about others, but for me I had a few cravings the first 7-10 days then it just went away. Now my biggest problem is remembering to eat. I often miss meals because eating is not something I look forward to anymore. It's become a burden, kinda like fueling the car, or washing it. It needs to be done, but I wish I could pay someone else to do it for me.

I've actually gotten to the point where I'd really rather just have Meal Replacement shakes. Just because I can drink them faster and be done with it.

I can't wait for that to happen. Went to the grocery store tonight to buy a scale and some lady offering samples of Cookies offered me one, I wanted to punch her face in. Siiiighhh. BREATHE.. I'm okay now. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
