So, I'm self pay and this may take a little while to save up for. I'm REALLY excited, and sometimes find it hard to sleep at night because I'm thinking about sooo many things. I've been researching doctors in Tijauna and getting lots of recommendations! :) of course I have worries, but I'm more excited than anything to get this done and get on with my life! I'm so tired of hiding behind this weight...

Welcome Jesser. I wish I could tell you those feelings subside and maybe they do after the surgery, but before hand, nope they stick with you. When I first made a final decision towards the surgery, I didn't sleep for days. Not out of fear or worry, but out of anticipation. I would lay awake at night staring at the ceiling and I could see flashes of my soon to be new life. I could not wait to get started. Now I am 18 days away from surgery, and my anticipation is only heightening even more.

I want to wish you the very best in your journey. Don't give up. I too am a self pay, and it may take awhile for you to reach your goal, but once you do, its like winning the race, crossing the finish line. It is so worth it. Try not to get discouraged or down during the saving process cause it can become worrisome. I can't tell you how many times I sat in the bathroom thinking there is just now way to come up with that much money. I was fortunate to have a very supportive husband that made sure to make it happen.

Again, stay focused, relax and it will happen. In the mean time, search the forum here, you will find tons of helpful information, and the people around here are the best. I could not have found a better place or better people to consider as my wls family.

Thank you so much for your support! I'm a single Mother and I'm gonna have to save up for this all on my own. A few people have made remarks like, "don't you think all that money could be used on your son?" but what they don't understand is that I am doing this for my son, not only myself... I'm not doing it for some vain reason because I want to "look hot" or whatever. I want to be healthy and be around as long as possible for him :)

Hi Jesser,

Congrats on the decision and good luck. I am a self pay also.... and paid my deposit for my surgery in January. I have been making payments to the doctor and just sent my last payment in this week. $8500.00 Wow! I never thought that I could come up with that kind of money... but, I did! No using the credit cards! Yeah! My surgery is scheduled for Sept 10th. And I am so excited! I know that you can save up!

Cheers, Dottie

I did the same thing to myself. I kept telling myself everything else I could do with that money. Now that I am post-op, I know (without a doubt) that I made the right decision!

I've realized that I will recoup the money I spent on WLS within about a year considering how much less I will eat. Plus, I've been really picky about clothes as I've gotten heavier. I'd love to grab a cute, cheap tank top from Wal-Mart instead of Lane Bryant in the future.

I couldn't put a price tag on the joy it has give me to watch the number on the scale go down nor the amount of energy I have gained. One less worry on my life means I've let a little more sunshine inside.

Dottie, are you getting a revision or was that price just for the sleeve? Just curious. I'm really looking at OCC and Dr. Ortiz :) I know that he is pricier than some of the others, but when I look at his website and watch his videos I just feel completely comfortable with him for some reason.

Sunny,

I'm so tired of shopping at plus sized stores. I don't care to be super thin like a model, but like you, I want to be able to wear "normal" clothing. I absolutely hate shopping for clothes right now. Instead of focusing on getting the clothes, I focus on how overweight I am and become severely depressed. A nice day out shopping turns into a freakin nightmare for me Lol

Hi Jesser,

I am a Revision.... having Lap Band removed and Sleeve done at the same time (keeping my fingers crossed)! I went to Dr. Ortiz for my LapBand... and that is why I am going back to him. He is a awesome doctor and his facility is top notch. My Mom went with me for the LapBand and she was very impressed with everything. He is worth every penny! Good luck!

Dottie

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
