I still do, it's so hard not to and my surgeon said I can a bit. But someone posted this video which did get me thinking. So I'm trying to at least drink less.

I only have a sip or two if I am eating something spicy and need to "cool the burn." I don't always wait for a full half hour after eating, but I also don't feel like drinking after eating is pushing food through any faster. If I ever got to the point where I was trying to drink + eat in an effort to eat more, I'd end it completely.

I occasionally have a sip but mostly I don't because it makes me uncomfortably full once i've eaten my alloted Protein, veggies, and startch. I've heard it causes your tummy to empty too fast, but for me the issue is that I simply don't have room with meals. I can and do drink right up to the time I eat, but after I eat, I wait at least 1/2 hr. before drinking.

I don't drink with meals, and sometimes I'm still uncomfortable drinking within a half hour after eating.

Ive been drinking while eating almost the whole time. I'm about 3 months out. I'm down 53 but probably would be a lot further. I vaguely remember my nutritionist mentioning this but it definitely wasn't stressed. Ugh. But I'm definitely stopping that right this second.

Curious, if you drink with your meal...do you avoid the calories/fat because it goes on through then?

Now my surgeon said that with the sleeve you can drink while eating. I personally don't think maybe as much. Just to wash it down a little. I still do but I'm trying to drink a little less. I don't like the full feeling so I'm pretty happy with drinking.

I don't think you avoid anything because calories and whatnot are absorbed in your intestines. But so are your nutrients and thats why sleevers don't get as malnurished as bypass people.

It seemed the video was demonstrating lap-band with the pouch above the stomach. Cant see how that scenario relates to the sleeve as we have no restriction when food travels to our stomach.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
