I got sleeved on july 3rd and we were going camping at Yosemite on the 10th. Good thing my husband didn't reserve it because I felt like crap! The small cuts on ur belly hurt. Your insides Hurt! You sweat big time. Going to the bathroom is hard. Just to sit and then stand takes alot of energy. Walk will be ur big challenge. Plus, it on Clear Liquids for about a week. That's challenging. Just really think about it. Good luck!

I had the same issue! We had a scheduled camping trip July 7-10. My surgeon wanted to schedule right before the trip and I made him reschedule. The kids had really been looking forward to it and I didn't want it to be a drag with me not feeling well. We rescheduled to 7/16 and I am sooooo glad I did. Unless you are a miracle healer, there is no way you will enjoy this trip. The first few days are rough. You will be surprised just how hard it is to move when your abdominal muscles are not working great! Getting up and down off the air bed and camp chairs is going to hurt like hell! Add in the drains, having to cover your dressings with plastic before showering, bathroom issues and not being able to swim. Trust me you will want your own bed and bathroom!

I am scheduled for Aug 20 and plannining a camping trip in an RV the 31st. No hiking bringing a golf cart. I think I will be okay. I am in the south but the RV has a great air conditioner. I don't think I would tent camp that soon. You will know what you can handle better after surgery. Be careful and good luck.

So I did go camping last weekend and there were definitely ups and downs. Overall I had a really great time and got some good sun (main reason I go is a fabulous pool at this park). Eating was a little tricky because I wanted to indulge on my "vacation" but was still on purees until a few days ago. My one "treat" was a piece of SF Hersheys dipped in Peanut Butter. And it hit the spot! I did not feel like I was missing out on the smores.

We go with a large group of family friends and do a potluck dinner every night. My mom brought alternate foods for me and I just stayed away from everyone during meals. HOWEVER, something I ate the second day gave me horrible diarrhea! It didn't last all day but a few hours... enough to make me want to go home. We have a pop-up camper with A/C and the campground has electricity and indoor plumbing (not the nicest or cleanest though) but it was still unpleasant (especially since I wanted to be at the pool). If I didn't have a friend with me I would have gone home but I felt bad ruining her trip.

During that time I was also on antibiotics for a reaction to the sutures in my incision. I had a lot of pain and redness. I had to use special bandages to go swimming but luckily it continued to heal and is much better now.

I'm not saying don't go... at 3-5 days post-op I couldn't buy a BM so you may not have the same problem as me. lol However, just make sure you prioritize yourself and your health.

Thank you, how many days post-op did you go camping? I'm not even sure if I'm going to have the sleeve done anymore...from what I've been hearing I think after 7 years with the lap band. I might have too much scar tissue :( my surgery is aug 7th and I'm being a bit negative right now since I've already gain a lot of weight.. From 140 now weighing 177 :( I hate not being about to control what I eat...

I went camping 10 days post-op. slept in a tent with foam pad and LOTS of pillows. I am a tough cookie, but in hindsight I should have waited another week or two.

The simple things like putting a tent up or bending down to pick something up was tough.... I slept in my own tent with lots of pillows and it was kinda OK... Had to take double dose of Loritab to get to sleep though.

I would reschedule- in order to have the best healing and the best camping trip they should not happen the same weekend.

Good luck and hope you get the band issues sorted.

Hopefully you're camping somewhere with nice bathrooms! My first days after my surgery were filled with nausea, vomiting and "poo issues". I hope your days go better than that, but it's something to be aware of. Good luck and enjoy!

I was 3 1/2 weeks post-op when I went camping. I knew I would moving to soft foods that Monday so I "pushed it" a little bit with my diet. I was one of the lucky ones who was able to stop my pain meds after 2 or 3 days and never had any problems since (besides the suture reaction). A nice thing for me, maybe not for all, is that my parents wouldn't let them help set up! lol I tried to help move the picnic table not even thinking and they yelled at me!

Well, I was sleeved Monday the 23rd of July, and this being Friday after, there is no way I would want to be camping with friends. I know everyone is different. I thought I would be going to the beach 2 days after but my dr told me travel was not an option due to blood clot risk. I was in a lot of pain and went back to the ER after my outpatient surgery. I am way better, holding down fluids, walking the neighborhood, but needing lots of rest. I would take care of yourself first! It was not an easy 1st 2 days post-op for me. I do feel that I recovered quickly though and I wish you the best (:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
