One Week Bermuda Cruise Starts 21 Days Post Op

Recommended Posts

Good Evening...I have a dilemma.

I'm a travel agent and there's what we call a seminar at sea 3 weeks after I'm post op with my sleeve. It's already booked and paid for. Matter of fact I just sold 3 rooms today on that same itinerary to someone I know and I'm hoping I'll be able to avoid him and his younger crowd -- I didn't tell anyone about my surgery. It was so cheap so he just decided to ask a few of his friends to tag along once I told him that there were ports he could catch a cruise on that was within driving distance of MD/DC.

I'm scheduled for the sleeve on 10/1, the cruise is 10/21-10/28. Any ideas how I'd feel at that time? Any of you travel within your first month? Any suggestions?

I'll have a couple of seminars to attend on board and we'll be docked in Bermuda for 3 nights. I'm nervous and very glad for the break.

I felt fine in a couple days. I never had pain and took no pain meds. I am 10 days out and are on pureed stage. Other than still lacking energy, it's been great! I'm most curious about the cruise! We are frequent cruisers- but I have till nov to get ready! As you know we are going to totally have to change our mindset and remember its about having fun, being with people, not all about eating. You can do it!!

I love the chilled fruit Soups that most cruises offer! At 3 weeks I was on my way to recovery - I felt ok but tired. I think you will be fine but I maybe would order rooms service and try to stay aways from the buffet an restaurants. It would be lovely to recover lounging on the deck of a cruise ship. Just be sure to bring your Protein Powder with you.

I'm actually there to re familiarize myself with this ship -- Explorer of the Seas for a large group I have booked next year. Also I have a lot of inquires on Bermuda since the fare is dirt cheap. I planned to check out a few hotels and villas while we there but every time I put thought to it, it's looking dim. I sure hope I'm on setting myself up for failure! I'll have my hubby who's super helpful and he's fairly new in the travel biz, so it's a learning experience for us both.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
