I am waiting for the nurse to call so that I can schedule mine. I hope to remember to ask.

I think you guys will be fine! My experience seems to be a pretty rare occurrence from what I've seen. Good luck and let us know how they go!

So I just scheduled my endoscopy and I asked the nurse on the phone if we were put under general for it- his response was that they use "mild sedation". Now I'm really pooping my pants...

Simply tell them ... I perfer to be put under. Its your body

I'm sorry that it was so awful =( Sounds rather traumatic. I would make sure to let your surgeon know that you are relatively resistant to anesthesia and/or pain meds (if you have a tolerance for pain meds too) that way they will make sure to keep a close eye on your dose during surgery and will make sure your pain is controlled well after surgery. You are brave for handling this so eloquently, I think I would be freaking out quite a bit.

omg thats horrible! I just had mine done last week and thankfully I was fully asleep. I was SO Nervous about it, bc ive never had one done. They gave me the meds right as they were telling me to bite down on this plastic bite guard to help ease the scope in, and thats all i remember...next thing I know I was waking up asking if it was over lol. Im so sorry u had to go thru that!

Hi all,

Just had my endoscope this morning and have no memory of any of it. They first gave me some mild happy juice, put me on my side, put a thing in my mouth to keep it open then bam, I was gone till the woke me up in recovery! Have a little sore throat but feel fine just a little sleepy!! Doc told me they found no problems !!

So I almost feel stupid for having been so worried about the endoscopy. I was given propofol (yes, THAT propofol) and dont remember a thing! Yay for happy juice!

I had mine yesterday. They also game me Propofol. Don't remember anything after cursing out the stupid anesthesiologist who did not warn me that he was injecting the drug into the IV and that I should expect my hand to feel like a burning inferno.

I was very nervous about this procedure - so nervous that I didn't sleep the night before. Thankfully I went to sleep woke up 30 min later and felt the most rested I had felt in weeks! No aftermath no bad experience - it was a breeze! I had heard of others who woke up during the procedure - I am sorry you had this experience.

I really don't think waking up during the procedure is common at all. As the anesthesiologist explained it to me- the priority is to make sure you're "sleeping" comfy and ok. She did say that if I was showing signs of having trouble breathing or something, they would lighten up the sedative but if that happened, I would likely only hear and remember voices- if anything at all. I understand how it feels to be scared and unsure- I was positively freaking out before I had mine done yesterday- but it was so easy and quick, you'll be in and out and probably not remember a thing. Good Luck!!

So glad you all had a good experience! I know I probably terrified a few of you with this post- so sorry! What happened with me is definitly not the norm so you all shouldn't be scared. I feel like I caused mass hysteria without meaning to lol

Wow I'm so glad you posted this after I had mine done coz I would have been scared stiff if I read this before I went in for mine.

My endoscopy was actually quite pleasant. I didn't feel a thing and after being a single mom of a growing toddler for the last three years it actually felt like a much needed nap. I literally felt terrific after I woke up.

I'm sorry you had this experience.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
