Recommended Posts

Oh my goodness,,I hate to hear this. You sound like a real trooper and your family..wow..they sound amazing! I recovered the exact same way they are treating you for your leak. It's no walk in the park but it beats the alternative. You will be in my thoughts and prayers, I wish you a speedy recovery!

I'm so glad to hear you're doing better and they caught it early. I'm also happy your hubby was so supportive to you. I actually just let my husband know about all this and how impressed I am with that. You take care of you and get well very soon - keep us posted

Post-op pain in the shoulder is often just a sign of the gas that was injected into your abdomen migrating upward under your shoulder blade. If however, you are concerned, and/or if you have nausea, trouble keeping liquids down, fever, pain (new), etc. then please get yourself to an ER right away and have it investigated!

I have not been able to update do to health and accessibility.

thank you for all the well wishes. It was confirmed today that I do indeed have a leak. it is small and the want it to heal on it's own so I will remain in the hospital 4-6 weeks and live on IV Fluid and nutrition. I will not be allowed to take anything by mouth in that time. I can live with out food if i could just have some sips of Water or even an ice chip. I was feeling guilty about having the surgery and putting my family through this' date=' i felt selfish as it was for wanting to have the surgery but my beloved husband said " Why would you ever feel selfish for making yourself better. Even though it doesn't seem like you are making yourself better at the time, you have to realize that it takes 4-6 weeks to recover from most surgerys anyways and you would need us to do all that we are doing now. the only difference we get some extra help from the nurses instead of re couping at home but we can bring anything from home you want(minus my bed which is what i complain about the most) " Looking it at it from that view makes alot of sense , but I have such an amazing family that has already dived in got it all planned out . I am going to stop feeling guilty that I had an elective surgery and look at it as I had a life saving surgery and it will take me 4-6 weeks to heal [/quote']

How lucky you are to have such an understanding hubby. I think you have exactly the right idea, you HAVE saved your life although it may not seem like it now. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I'm so sorry you experienced a leak. I hope that you continue to improve and are feeling better soon.

You are not the first person to experience this, and I suggest you check out the complications board to see if you can find other people that have successfully overcome this type of setback. I've seen a number of people struggle with complications in the beginning only to go on to recover and be happily sleeved.

Best wishes to you and your family.

~Cheri

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
