I am two weeks out from surgery and am trying to get my ducks in a row. Will I be able to swallow the oval pink Prilosec pill after surgery or do I need to start trying to find a smaller pill. And if I need to, does anyone have suggestions for which one is easy to get down? Thanks in advance!

I was on a Nexium pill immediately post op that was similar in size to the Prilosec I took later on. The only issue I had was that prior to surgery I took pills by taking a big gulp of Water, taking the pill, and then following it with another big gulp of Water. Obviously this isn't possible immediately post op! But small sips before and after will help it go down easily.

You shouldn't have any issues. Best wishes for your surgery and a speedy recovery,

~Cheri

I resumed all meds 2 days post op. I take Prevacid and it is a capsule, not huge, but not small. It went down fine with about 2 sips of Water. I was also discharged on antibiotics and that capsule was larger than the Prevacid and went down with about 3 sips of Water. Small tablets should really be easier so I don't think you will have any problems.

I was really worried about the Prilosec and that gallbladder capsule, whatchacallit, but I had no problems with any of the pills or capsules.

Thank you Cheri and GirlFriday. It sounds like that's one worry I can check off my list.

Like the others said, just don't gulp it down. Aim for the minimal amount of Water necessary. I sort of hold it in my mouth and let it "float" down. The same with my other meds. No more shoving them in as I run out the door. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
