Izuri 428 Posted July 18, 2012 Hello! I am new to the forum, although I have been reading topics for a few weeks now. I have my surgery next Thursday and am feeling nervous! I have never had surgery before, so the whole idea, while exciting, is definitely a bit scary. Any tips on how you guys went through the pre-surgery jitters? Also, I have been working out some to help my cardio/pulmonary function and eating well, any other pre-op tips for this week aside from doctor's instructions? Delta..Make it Happen 29 Posted July 18, 2012 just make sure you stick to your pre op diet. also if you are doing some exercising you should do well. I was nervous on the day of my surgery because my surgery was delayed several hours because my doctor had other surgeries that ran behind. but after i had surgery it was not as bad as i thought. i have not been on pain meds since i left the hospital. everyone is different but you may be one of the ones who dont need pain meds. before i went in i kept asking God to make this easy for me and so far he has
Gene1970 179 Posted July 18, 2012 I think a lot of us had the pre-surgery jitters and questioned ourselves many times. Just keep reminding yourself why you are doing it. For me I had to remind myself of the multiple unsuccessful attempts to do it on my own. I also kept close to the forums and gained a lot of support from those who had already had the surgery and had great success. You will find a lot of support here. Good luck on your surgery next week!!! The days will fly by and before you know it you will be several weeks post op. I've 5 weeks post op today and feeling awesome!!!!! ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted July 18, 2012 never had surgery before, hi there, welcome to our " small group" - we're all getting smaller and smaller as far as the the jitters, nerves, excitement, or looking for the door to leave - we always tell Newbies those feeling are totally normal. most of us feel that way pre WLS is very scary people do different things before surgery, to try and help themselves get through that time. i didn't talk or think about the WLS much before WLS. If i concentrated on it too much - i would have gone bullistic (msp) WLS was early in morning, started to get more "concerned" as DH and I got to hospital. thats just me All went well, 7 months later I'm still around to talk to you Being your first surgery, i can only imagine that you feel more nervous, anxious, and a little frightened I hope you have someone to "hold" your hand good luck see you on the other side you will love your new life w/the sleeve kathy

Izuri 428 Posted July 19, 2012 Thank you guys for all the reassuring words. I actually was glad to go to work today, it was a good break for me to get my mind of jitters. I'm very lucky, I do have a strong support network of family and friends to lean on, but coming on here and reading has been helping too. I guess I need to take it one day at a time. Likasulema, I am gonna have to try your strategy and not think about it, otherwise I'll be driving myself up a wall all week I think. =) I will keep you guys updated!
