How far out are you? Week 3, I had nerve pain where it felt like it was ripping and on fire. Especially when I sneezed or coughed. Unfortunately, that's pretty normal. Wearing an abdominal brace for a few days and massaging around the area really, really, really helped me.

I had the same sort of pain for several weeks( im 8 weeks out now.) Mine was complicated by the development of a seroma. My surgeon had to reopen the incision for it to drain. That said, that incision is the one through which they remove the excised stomach. It's going to hurt more than any other.

And yes, that loss is entirely possible in a week. At two weeks out, I'd lost 32lbs, including 8 from pre-op.

I have been having a lot of pain with the incision. I've been to the er twice now cuz I can get any relief. I can't stand up to walk, cant do my exercises cuz I can't stand straight. Only thing that helps is dilaudid and I can't take that home obviously. Ugh I wish it would disappear.

Docs are just saying its pain from the trauma of everything coing out and being pulled. I dont understand how proper can have no pain after this surgery. I get irrotatedcuz my mom will say "u just had a major surgery, u will have some discomfort." If it was discomfort I could handed it. I have fibroyalgia so I know all about discomfort.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
